Yard long beans are so fun to grow and they get over 1 foot long in length. This particular variety is dark red in color with thick, long pods. Yard long beans thrive in hot humid climates. I switch to growing these during our hot and rainy summers here in Florida. They start producing in about 2 months after being direct sowed into the ground and don't require fertilizer. The plants tend to put on a flush of harvestable beans in a 2-3 week period. Then you will notice the plants kind of stop growing for a few weeks. They will bounce back and then put on another second flush of harvestable pods if you let them continue to grow. The second flush is not as much as the first flush but still good. Pinch off the tips of each vine to encourage side branching, which creates more flowers, which in turn increases production of pods. Harvest the pods when they are pencil size in thickness. Flavor is similar to green beans but with a crunchier texture. I like to chop the long pods down to more bite size pieces and stir fry. Pods retain their color once cooked.

How To Grow From Seed

Sun: Full Sun

Water: Allow the soil to dry out a little bit in-between watering

Fertilizer: Do not fertilize nitrogen affixers like bean crops. An initial application or amendment of an organic granular fertilizer, like Espoma Garden-Tone helps boost seedling growth, but then do not fertilize again.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Direct sow after your last spring frost date, when soil temperatures are 70-85ºF. Can continue sowing seeds through summer.  This is a vining crop. Dig a trench 1 inch deep at the base of a vertical gardening structure or trellis and sprinkle in the seeds. Cover with 1 inch of soil. Keep the soil moist for better germination.

Germination: 3-10 days

Days To Maturity: 65-75 days after direct sowing the seed

How & When To Harvest: Harvest pods when they are pencil thickness, but before the seeds bulge and pods get "airy spaces" in them.

Common Diseases: The most common disease is rust, which easily occurs in humid or damp conditions. Improve airflow by proper plant spacing. Spray with 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect.

Common Pests: Critters like rabbits love to munch on newly germinated seedlings, so protection from small animals might be required. I often find leaves with the edges cut and rolled in. This is damage from beanleaf roller larvae. It is usually not bad enough to where you need to treat for it and can just ignore.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger
