  • The Curly Red Lipstick Plant, scientifically known as Aeschynanthus radicans 'Curly', is a unique and captivating cultivar of the common Lipstick Plant. It is a tropical evergreen plant in the Gesneriaceae family, the same family as African Violets and Gloxinias. This plant is named for its tubular, red flowers that emerge from a dark, calyx-like sheath, resembling a tube of lipstick. The "Curly" variety is particularly prized for its contorted, twisting foliage, which gives it a distinctive and sculptural appearance.

The species Aeschynanthus radicans is native to the tropical and subtropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, including countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants (such as trees) rather than in the soil, using them for support.

The flowers are the star attraction of the Curly Red Lipstick Plant. They are tubular and a vibrant, fire-engine red, often with a yellow or orange throat. Before they fully open, they emerge from a deep burgundy or dark purple calyx, which creates the striking "lipstick in a tube" effect that gives the plant its name. The flowers bloom most profusely in the spring and summer, and with proper care, they can appear intermittently throughout the year.

*** Just a friendly reminder that flowering in houseplants is a natural process with periods of bloom and dormancy. The plant you are selecting may not have flowers at this time, but with the right conditions, it will flower again, resembling the image shown.
  • This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so it's best placed near an east- or north-facing window. A few hours of morning sun is generally well-tolerated and can even encourage more prolific blooming.

Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. The plant prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering frequency in the winter when the plant's growth slows down. High humidity is a plus, so regular misting or placing it on a pebble tray with water is beneficial.

Use a well-draining, airy potting mix. An orchid mix or a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and coarse sand works well. The key is to prevent the roots from sitting in soggy soil.

The plant prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C - 29°C). It is sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C) can cause damage.

The Curly Red Lipstick Plant is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets, making it a safe choice for households with animals.

No returns and no support. If it doesn't work properly, too bad.

I was fairly happy with my Epson ET 2800, but was told that I'd get better colors with the F170. So I bit the bullet. The installation went smoothly and I was printing in short order. It was when I started printing items that had some dark gray that I noticed the problem. It was printing green. I contacted Epson tech support and they answered the phone almost immediately. (And how rare is that??) The woman I spoke with seemed to be familiar with the problem and advised me to modify the printer preferences and change the color correction from "ICM" to "No color correction". Well, it wasn't printing green anymore. Now the grays were brown. At this point, she ran out of ideas and gave me an email address for the second level of tech support and asked if I'd send a photo of the printed fabrics showing the problem. I did. That was over three weeks ago. I've sent a couple of followup emails, but they're ignoring me. But the best news was discovering that there are no returns on this product. I didn't think that was a thing with Amazon and I've never had any problems before. So now the 30-day return window is about to elapse and it appears that I'm stuck with an oversized doorstop. In the photo I'm including with this review, the fabric on the upper-left was printed with my Epson ET 2800. On the upper right, the F170 with ICM color correction. On the bottom, the F170 with no color correction.

Epson SureColor F170 Sublimation Printer Rocks!
Style: Printer & Inks, Style: Printer & Inks
TI’m a newbie at sublimation, and this is my first sublimation printer. I love it! I can’t wait to make more things! I like that it’s not too large, but still can print up to 8.5x14”. The quality seems to be really good, but I also don’t have any other printer to compare it to. This was my very first project! I’m very happy with it so far!

Fits in a standard tape dispenser
Number of Items: 12
First of all, I like the width of this tape when I don't need the full width of standard 20mm. It's great for delicate projects and minimizing taping over two-sided sublimations like keychains. There's just enough adhesion and it comes off cleanly so it does the job. If you don't need the full width of 20mm, this is a great value. For those looking for a compatible dispenser, these rolls fit into a standard weighted Scotch tape base like the C-38. There will be room around the core because these rolls have a larger diameter, and room on either side because the rolls are thinner than standard Scotch tape, but once you pull the tape onto the blade, the roll remains taut and it's easy to remove pieces of your desired length with one hand.
