The Rainbow Bush lives up to its name with the variety of colour across its foliage! Its red stems are set off against the green leaves with their splashes of pale, creamy variegation. This tiny-leaved succulent is part of the staple diet for African elephants where it grows in the wild, hence the name 'Elephant Bush'. As it grows older, these shoots will become woody and thicker; sometimes this plant is even grown as a bonsai due to its naturally small leaves! However you choose to cultivate it, be sure not to overwater and this plant will reward your care with its vibrant, eyecatching foliage- and in summer, if it's really feeling at home in your home, you may see clusters of tiny, scented pink flowers adding to your rainbow!

Scientific Name
Portulacaria afra (African plant that's like a Portulaca (plant family name)) ‘Medio-picta’

Common Name
Rainbow Bush, Elephant Bush, Midstripe Rainbow Bush, Dwarf Jade Plant, Elephant's Food

Origin
Native to South Africa

Light
Likes bright light and will do well with a couple of hours of morning or evening sun per day. An east- or west-facing window which doesn't get too much midday/afternoon sun would be ideal

Water
Allow all the soil to dry out between waters; in its native South Africa, the Rainbow Bush gets watered by monsoons every so often so is used to getting all its water in one big downpour, then going for long periods without! Use lukewarm water and try and use rainwater, or leave your tapwater to stand for 24 hours

Humidity
Low humidity is what this planyt is used to. An occasional hosing down of the leaves will help keep it hydrated as long as the foliage dries out thoroughly afterwards!

Soil
Use a well-draining soil with added sand and grit; a blend designed for cacti and succulents will work well here. Repot every 1-2 years in spring.

Food
Feed every two months in the growing season, reduce to every three in autumn and winter. A fertiliser designed for cacti will be most suited for this plant, though generic houseplant feed will also do.

Temperature
Average household temperatures of about 15-26°C are fine- make sure it doesn't drop below 10°C in winter.

Pet-safe
The elephant bush is non-toxic but can cause a bad reaction if eaten by some pets, especially in larger amounts! They are a good food source for African elephants and tortoises, though.

Sprouts Top Tips
If you want to keep your Rainbow Bush small, it is important to prune it; there are many different styles you can choose to do this in, but if you want to follow a particular asthetic it may be worth looking up bonsai cultivation tips! Without pruning, the plant can grow up to 2m in height, though this will take 5-10 years and lots of diligent repotting.

Read this review. This pillow saved me.
Size: Standard/Queen (Pack of 1), Style: High Loft (6"-7")
I have to testify about this pillow, my brothers and sisters. Ever since I hit my 30s, my body has gone down. Aches and pains. Pops. Crackles. Snaps. It’s ridiculous. Over the last 2 years, I have managed to injure a muscle in my shoulder and the pain is unbearable when it is inflamed. I finally narrowed it down to the pillow I was sleeping on. I have an attachment to a pillow I’ve owned for over 20 years - that’s another story. I could fold it 3 times and it was finally thick enough to support my head. My shoulder got so tore up recently that I had to go through 2 rounds of steroids plus round the clock ibuprofen. Waking up in the night, the whole ordeal. I ordered this pillow after much research all over the internet. I was appalled by the $165 price ticket. But when you’re in that level of pain, you’re just about willing to do whatever it takes. The first night I immediately noticed I got more consecutive hours of sleep than I had in weeks. A week later and my shoulder is pain free. I could’ve cried. The height of this pillow stabilizes my neck and shoulders perfectly. It is firm, but gives and contours to your neck and head. It’s a heavy pillow but I don’t even care. Truly I don’t think I’ll ever go back. This pillow has saved my shoulder and I’ll never stop thanking God for it. If you’re experiencing back, shoulder, or neck pain and are considering this pillow, just order it. Please. Just do it. I’m forever changed. But I’m still keeping 20 year old pillow… just for sentimental purposes. 😂

Amazing. The Perfect Pillow for Side Sleepers with neck pain!
Size: Queen (High Loft), Number of Items: 1
I do have to update my experience. This still is a very comfortable pillow, it's just I can't sleep with it under my head (it's now my hug pillow). After using for 2 weeks, I developed severe neck spasms. Pillows are very individulized and as it turns out, I probably need a firmer pillow than this "highly" comfortable pillow can offer. Will NOT change my rating. Wow! I'm impressed with this pillow so far. I'm a side sleeper mostly but chose the medium-high loft 6.2" as recommended which was the perfect height. I didn't see any taller options but this has turned out just right. I did hours of research before chosing this product, which turned out to be advantageous. It's not as cooling as my old memory foam pillow with the gel layer but it stays cool long enough that I don't have to move the pillow around to be comfortable before falling asleep. It's surprising lightweight. I like it much more than any memory foam I've ever had. The best news was that within a few days my headaches and neck pain have improved by 80%. I am really very impressed with the quality of this pillow. It is softer than I anticipated but still firm enough to keep my head elevated giving me perfect spine alignment and great support. It truly is the MOST COMFORTABLE supportive Pillow I have ever slept on! The smell is only minor at It's worst and has nearly disappeared after just 4 days. It is a mild latex smell but definitely NOT petroleum. It's in the moderate price range at ~$100 and worth every cent. High value for the price. I really really like this pillow and highly recommend it. Big fan! Might irder a 2nd as a backup if it doesn't last but it's so well made I feel that won't be a problem.

Excellent comfort and support!
Size: Standard (Mid Loft), Number of Items: 1
The pillow feels premium from the first night and delivers soft and stable support. The pillow holds its shape and didn't have any chemical smell out of box. Worth the price and I would buy it again.

Not really medium, but a quality pillow nonetheless
Size: Standard (Mid Loft), Number of Items: 1
It is absolutely the case that with this type of product, most people who review it don't actually know what they're talking about. Latex foam pillows are not like any other kind of pillow, so your expectations have to be completely different. It's not about thickness, height, or anything else but comfort. Comfort in this case comes from you choosing the correct level of FIRMNESS. Since each company has their own idea of what constitutes each level, the difficulty is figuring out which one is going to work for you. Your spine - including your neck, should not be anything but straight/aligned when your head sinks in. Regardless of what the pillow LOOKS like, it is how your head lays that matters. Latex foam is not like memory foam AT ALL, so don't expect it to be. LF bounces back immediately when you move off of it, and it can last for a very, very long time with proper care. Yes, it does have a natural, rubber odor. This fades a bit with time, but will never go away. After all, it IS a rubber product. EXPECT A SCENT! To keep yourself from being bothered, and to extend the life of the pillow, use TWO different types of pillow covers. As a first layer, I use one meant for encasement from allergens and bugs. It's waterproof (not vinyl, and not loud). It's the kind that cannot go in the dryer after being washed. The second layer is a simple cotton cover/case that you should wash and dry depending on factors like oil production, frequency in hair washing, and frequency in sheet changing, etc. Using both will dramatically extend the life of the pillow. Water is the enemy. Moisture will cause the foam to break down into pieces. The crumbling is pretty nasty, so avoid it! The case this one comes in is admittedly cheap and pathetic. Not every company has such poor ones, but it won't make a difference if you add the layers I have suggested. *This IS a real latex foam pillow. I have owned enough to know what they smell and feel like. I bought a "medium". I would call it a firm "soft", and so it wasn't for me. Find the right firmness for your neck and sleep needs, and don't blame the damn company for your choice! These ARE the correct height, they smell normal, and the price is average (they're ALL overpriced)! *This does not seem like a completely latex product, but it is close enough that if it were actually medium firmness, I would have kept it.
