Hyophorbe lagenicaulis Bottle Palm

The Bottle Palm is native to the Mauritius Islands and endemic to Round Island. It naturally occupies the sandy soils of upland forests and coastal savannas. 

This unique and intresting bulbous palm has a single trunk that will grow slowly up to 10-20 ft tall and about 2 ft in diameter. The gray, self-cleaning trunk has a distinguished bottle shape, hence the name Bottle Palm. Bottle palms produce white flowers that develop into ornamental black seeds when ripe. 

H. lagenicaulis prospers in full sun if given enough water and is also an outstanding indoor/outdoor container specimen. It tolerates and looks its best in moderate shade and filtered light.
