Hollyhock seeds for the garden that has decided it deserves better than the garden centre allows. Hollyhocks grow tall with the confidence of a plant that has been standing against English cottage walls for three hundred years.

Hollyhock is the tall cottage garden classic that grows to three metres, blooms in its second year, and makes every fence look intentional. Each packet is hermetically vacuum-sealed -- removing the oxygen that causes standard paper seed packets to lose germination viability within approximately one year. State law requires a 3-year viability label on sealed packaging. NASA research on hermetic seed storage indicates viability of up to 10 years under proper conditions. Every packet is non-GMO and germination-tested at independent third-party labs before it earns its Japanese woodblock print artwork.

How to Grow Hollyhock from Seed

Sowing and Germination

Direct sow in spring or late summer. Biennial -- blooms second year.

Care and Harvest

Tall, stately biennial reaching 1.5-2.5m. Classic cottage garden plant.

Why Vacuum-Sealed Seeds Last Longer

Standard paper seed packets are permeable to oxygen and moisture -- the two primary causes of seed degradation. Most paper-packaged seeds begin losing germination viability after approximately one year, contributing to significant garden-industry waste: packets purchased, not planted, expired, discarded. Shido Seeds are hermetically vacuum-sealed. The packet does not expire quietly in a drawer. It waits.

About the Packaging

Every Shido seed packet is illustrated in the style of Japanese 1910s woodblock printing -- designed and drawn in-house by Chive, the Toronto ceramics studio that has been exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower Show in London every year and does not, as a matter of principle, sell to big-box retailers. Customers collect the packets as a series. This was not the original plan.

Baggy hips
Color: Light Gray, Size: 6, Color: Light Gray, Size: 6
These gray dress pants don't fit perfectly but the size range it so wide that it's expected. My 5yr old is tall for his age but he's thin with a small waist. Pants made with adjustable waists are ideal if we get them long enoughlike a 6 or 7. There biggest flaw in these pants is that the sides (or thigh areas) are so baggy the form a weird pouch. Much like most pants heel probably outgrow the length before he can fill in the hip and waist areas. Other than that, the color is a soft gray. The material is thin but it irons quickly. It's overall quality used fair so if your kid is average height and weight, this might fit perfectly.

Dressy without the struggle
Color: Deep Gray, Size: 7
These are really nice little dress pants for boys. Perfect for church, weddings, or anything where they need to look a bit more put together. The big win for me… they’re not stiff. My kid didn’t fuss about wearing them at all, which says a lot. They look clean and polished but still have some comfort to them, which is exactly what you want for this kind of thing. They also seem pretty well made, nothing fancy but solid for the price. Easy win if you need dress pants a kid will actually wear.

Nice suit pants
Color: Black, Size: 14, Color: Black, Size: 14
Sorry they are covered by a long shirt in this picture, but they are great pants! They are fully adjustable with a huge range of buttons for sizing the stretchy tabs inside. They are made of a soft, durable fabric, and my son said they’re comfortable enough to wear all day. They looked really nice, though since we had to cinch them tight for this super skinny guy, and belt might have helped to cover up the bunching in the back.
