Mountain Chia (Salvia tiliaefolia) AKA Tarahumara chia, AKA Rarámuri chia

Warm Season (Tender) Annual

Full Sun for seed production, otherwise will also grow in shade

Produces chia seed for consumption (see below)

Leaves can be made into tea (see below)

Great in ground and in containers

Chia are in the same genus as sage (Salvia), and are famous for their super nutritious seeds as well as the novelty "Chia Pet."

Why Mountain Chia is different

-- Not day length sensitive (or much less so), has been grown as far North as Pennsylvania

-- Somewhat smaller seeds

-- Mountain Chia leaves can be used as a tea and flavoring

-- More attractive (in our opinion) foliage

Nearly all commercially available chia seed comes from the species Salvia hispanica, which is super easy to grow and can tolerate some super poor and dry soils. However, this species is what is referred to as day length sensitive, meaning that will not flower until after Fall equinox, triggered by the nights becoming longer than the days. What this means is that by the time it starts to flower in a temperature climate, the more and more likely frost will destroy the seeds before they are ripe. Even in Tennessee when we have late Fall frosts, they have never made seeds.

What is being sold here is "mountain chia" -- a different species. Mountain chia is not day length sensitive (or much less so.) It regularly makes seeds here in Tennessee -- although I will say "just barely." It still takes its time to flower, so probably not good to grow for seed in shorter summer climates -- UNLESS you are growing it just for the leaves.

SUPERFOOD: Chia seeds high in many minerals and vitamins, as well as healthy Omega 3 fats, but if this wasn't enough they truly shine in an extraordinary way -- their soluble fiber content. Simply soak chia in water to get the "gel" and add to smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, or just drink it for a super hydrating and super healthful snack.

Chia seeds are a staple in our family. It was one of the first foods our son would ask for even before he started talking, and enjoys it almost daily ever since. At one point when he was an infant, we had to say "no" to him about it as he was consuming what we thought was too much chia!

The Edible Leaves and Tea

Unlike anything I have heard or read about regular chia, mountain chia leaves are edible, typically used as a tea. The tea has an unpleasant, super leafy green smell (like nettles but even more so) and this is what I taste when I just eat a leaf off the plant. However, the tea has a very nice TASTE, sort of like a mild and pleasant sage-like or juniper-like flavor that I could see being used in a kombucha or water kefir or even beer.

Permaculture Uses:

This plant grows like a weed, and is tolerant of some super poor soils and conditions. It can reseed in areas with seasons long enough for the seeds to set.

-- Great weed suppressing, fast growing, annual ground cover plant

-- Feeds lates pollinators

-- Pest confuser

-- Edible and Medicinal Uses

-- Great for filling in gaps of your perennials in your food forest

Love it.
Style: Ink
I love my epson workforce printer. I used to be a Canon person but once I got this printer. It changed my mind. So the ink is worth it. Especially in the bundle package. It may be a bit on the pricey side but it last me awhile. At least, in my opinion, it’s less expensive than buying them separately. Epson makes great stuff and glad I chose to stick with them. The ink is very good and looks great after it prints. Thanks to Epson for functionality, cost and efficiency when it comes you your products.

Epson Ink for the win
Style: Ink
Love my epson printer and that I can order the ink just about anywhere. Ink is of good quality and depending on the amount you print, it seems to last a decent amount of time.

It's ink and it works.
Style: Ink
It's ink and it works. My Epson printer is VERY finicky and only wants name-brand ink. This is it. A little pricey but they all are.

Well performing ink for my particular printer
Style: Ink
These inks work well, and are easy to install. They do not last long. They follow the current apparent marketing scheme of offering a a very good printer at a very favorable price, but charging relatively high prices for the ink. I understand that people need to make a profit somewhere.

Title: Solid, Reliable Ink – No Frills, No Surprises (4 ★)
Style: Ink
The Bottom Line The Epson 822 DURABrite Ultra Ink Standard‑Capacity Black & Color Cartridge Combo Pack (T822120‑BCS) does exactly what it promises: it prints clean, sharp pages on the WorkForce Pro WF‑3820/3823/4820/4830/4833/4834 series with no hiccups. It isn’t a game‑changing breakthrough, but it’s dependable enough that you can toss it in your cart, try it out, and feel confident you won’t be left with a printer jam or faded text. Why I Gave It Four Stars Aspect Verdict Comments Performance ★★★★★ Prints consistently on both black and color pages. Colors are vivid, blacks are deep, and there are no streaks or banding. Compatibility ★★★★★ Works flawlessly with all the WorkForce Pro models listed on the box. No driver updates or firmware tricks needed.Value ★★★★☆ Standard‑capacity cartridges are a bit pricier than high‑yield options, but you get the expected page yields (≈ 2,000 B / 1,800 C / M / Y). Packaging & Arrival ★★★★★ Packaged securely, the “OME” seal was intact, and the cartridges arrived ready to install. Innovation ★★☆☆☆ Nothing revolutionary – just solid, reliable ink. If you’re looking for a “wow” factor, this isn’t it. Return Policy ★★★★★ Amazon’s 30‑day liberal return policy makes the purchase low‑risk; you can always send it back if it doesn’t meet your expectations. Overall, the combo earns a four‑star rating because it meets every functional requirement without any drama, but it also doesn’t exceed expectations enough to merit a perfect score. What I Actually Did Unboxed the combo and confirmed the “OME” seal was intact – a quick visual check that the cartridges weren’t tampered with. Installed the black cartridge first, then the four color cartridges, following the printer’s on‑screen prompts. Ran a printer self‑test and printed a few typical office documents (reports, spreadsheets, a color flyer). Checked the print quality side‑by‑side with my old OEM cartridges. The results were virtually identical – no ghosting, no color shifts. Pros Plug‑and‑play: No quirks, no firmware hacks. Consistent quality: Straight‑forward, vibrant colors and clean blacks. Reliable supply: Works across the entire WorkForce Pro lineup mentioned. Risk‑free purchase: Amazon’s 30‑day return window lets you test without commitment. Cons Standard capacity only: If you print heavily, the higher‑yield (XL) versions would be more economical. No “wow” factor: It’s a solid, work‑horse cartridge, not a revolutionary ink formula. Price: Slightly higher than some off‑brand alternatives, though you pay for brand reliability. Who Should Consider This Home‑office users who need dependable daily printing without fuss. Small businesses that run a mix of black‑and‑white documents and occasional color marketing pieces. Anyone who values a hassle‑free experience and appreciates a generous return policy as a safety net. If you’re hunting for an ink set that will wow you with cutting‑edge technology, look elsewhere. If you just want a cartridge that does its job, lasts as expected, and won’t surprise you with printer errors, the Epson 822 DURABrite Ultra combo is a safe bet. Bottom line: It’s a reliable, as‑described product that earns my respect, just not my awe. Four stars—good enough to recommend, but not enough to call it a breakthrough.
