Nitrogen drives lush, dark-green vegetative growth, which makes blood meal well suited to leafy greens, corn, brassicas, herbs, and lawn green-up, as well as the vegetative phase of tomatoes and peppers. Its nitrogen is bound in protein and released as soil bacteria mineralize it, so in warm, evenly moist soil plants typically begin responding within one to three weeks — faster than feather meal or alfalfa meal, with lower burn risk than fast-release synthetics.
