Aloe ‘Safari Sunrise’ is a compact hybrid created in South Africa’s Sunbird Aloes breeding program to provide reliable, season‑long color in small gardens and containers. It forms tight rosettes 10–15 cm high and 15–20 cm wide of slightly rough, grey‑green leaves edged with soft teeth, then produces pups to form a tidy clump. From late winter through autumn, repeatedly if given light feeding and occasional water, each rosette sends up a 25–35 cm stalk topped by short racemes whose coral‑red buds open cream‑yellow, a two‑tone display that draws bees and hummingbirds. Parentage includes compact Aloe species and winter‑blooming shrubby aloes, giving the plant both dwarf stature and a long blooming window. ‘Safari Sunrise’ thrives in full sun near the coast or light afternoon shade inland, prefers gritty, fast‑draining soil, and needs only occasional deep irrigation once established; over‑watering or heavy frost are its main threats. Hardy to about –4 °C (25 °F) it fits USDA Zones 9b–11, but can be overwintered indoors in colder areas. Occasional grooming of spent stalks and removal of crowded offsets keeps the clump fresh. Its small size, prolonged flowering and drought tolerance make it useful as a patio accent, rock‑garden foreground or low‑water container feature, where its warm blooms offer reliable contrast against arid textures for much of the year.
