1 potted Blue Columnar Cactus (Pilosocereus pachycladus)
Description and Planting Instructions
Description:
Scientific Name: Pilosocereus pachycladus
Common Names: Blue Columnar Cactus, Blue Torch Cactus
Family: Cactaceae
Origin: Native to Brazil
Appearance: The Blue Columnar Cactus is known for its striking blue-green color and tall, columnar shape. It has multiple ribs along its length, with clusters of short, golden or white spines emerging from areoles along the ribs. This cactus can grow up to 10-15 feet (3-4.5 meters) tall in its natural habitat, though it is often smaller when cultivated. In the summer, it may produce large, white, night-blooming flowers that are followed by small, fleshy fruits.
Planting Instructions
1. Choosing the Right Location
Climate:
Temperature: The Blue Columnar Cactus prefers warm temperatures and can tolerate light frost. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 9-11.
Sunlight: This plant requires full sun to partial shade. It does best with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day.
Soil:
Type: Use well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix. If planting in the ground, ensure the soil is sandy or gritty to promote good drainage.
pH: The optimal soil pH is slightly acidic to neutral, between 6.0 and 7.5.
2. Preparing the Planting Site
Containers:
Pot Selection: Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent water from sitting in the soil, which can cause root rot.
Soil Preparation: Fill the pot with the well-draining soil mix, leaving enough room to place the cactus.
Garden Bed:
Location: Select a sunny spot with well-draining soil.
Soil Preparation: Amend the soil with sand or grit to improve drainage if necessary.
3. Planting the Blue Columnar Cactus
Timing:
Season: Planting is best done in the spring or early summer when the cactus is actively growing.
Planting:
Removing from Container: Carefully remove the cactus from its current container, being mindful of the spines. Using gloves or tongs can help protect your hands.
Placement: Place the cactus in the new pot or garden bed at the same depth it was previously growing.
Backfilling: Fill in around the cactus with soil mix, gently firming it down to support the plant.
4. Watering
Frequency: Water the Blue Columnar Cactus thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Method: Water at the base of the plant to avoid getting water on the stems, which can cause rot.
5. Light and Temperature
Indoors: Place the cactus in a south or west-facing window where it can receive bright, direct sunlight.
Outdoors: If grown outdoors, ensure it is in a location with plenty of sunlight but some protection from the harsh midday sun to prevent scorching.
6. Fertilizing
Type: Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Frequency: Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize during the winter when the cactus is dormant.
7. Pest and Disease Management
Pests: Watch for common cactus pests such as mealybugs, scale, and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Diseases: Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. If necessary, apply fungicides labeled for use on cacti.
8. Repotting
Frequency: Repot the Blue Columnar Cactus every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and accommodate growth.
Timing: Repot in the spring, just before the growing season begins.
9. Propagation
Cuttings: The Blue Columnar Cactus can be propagated from stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem segment, allow it to callus over for a few days, then plant it in well-draining soil.
Seeds: Although less common, it can also be propagated from seeds. Sow the seeds in well-draining soil and keep them moist until they germinate.
Additional Tips
Winter Care: Reduce watering in the winter months when the cactus is dormant. Protect it from frost if grown outdoors in cooler climates.
Handling: Be careful when handling the cactus due to its spines. Using gloves or tools can help prevent injury.
Growth Habit: This cactus is slow-growing but can become quite tall over time. Ensure it has enough space to grow and support its height.
With proper care and attention to its specific needs, the Blue Columnar Cactus can be a stunning and low-maintenance addition to your plant collection.

Outstanding affordable bed frame
Size: Twin, Style: Kai, Size: Twin, Style: Kai
Outstanding bed! Just the right size. Sturdy! Easy to assemble and looks great, too. I had some issues like other reviewers. Mattress slid so I put a layer of foam down between the frame and mattress. All good now! The frame’s too low to the floor for me so I added a thick foam topper so I’m higher up. No issues with slats falling out or anything getting loose over time. I had some difficulty assembling the frame as described but that’s a “me” problem. Got everything correct after a couple tries. The multiple attempts caused no damage. The wood slats took some rough handling during assembly due to them fitting in tight. Assembled fine as a single person with no help. Highly recommend! Especially for the price.

Another great bed frame from Zinus
Size: Queen, Style: Leah
This is the 3rd or 4th or so Zinus bed frame I've purchased and just like the rest, the assembly is easy to follow, it's sturdy, and it looks great. They're also easy to break down and re-assemble in case of a move. The way they use Velcro for the slats to stick to the frame that otherwise ALWAYS fall at some point on other bed frames and is a pain to fix, makes it so much better. They also have a sticky thing on the slats to stick the mattress to the bed frame so the mattress doesn't slide around but I never need to use it. I assembled the bed frame by myself and it took less than an hour. I love that they include a little ratchet in the hardware. All the screws screwed in easily to all the places they needed to go. It's not too heavy. I have a 12 inch mattress so it does almost completely cover the bottom slat on the headboard. The pillows on my 12 inch mattress pretty much cover the headboard. They must use a really thin mattress for the product picture because my bedding engulfs 99% of the frame and you can barely see it, so be warned if you want the bed frame to be visible but have a high mattress/fluffy bedding. I got this one because I had a really low profile frame from them before and I wanted to utilize under bed storage. This has plenty of room to put things away underneath. Either way I really enjoy Zinus's products and will continue to purchase them in the future.

Nice bed, directions need improving
Size: Twin, Style: Leah, Size: Twin, Style: Leah
The assembly should have been so simple. But because of the directions using letters instead of numbers and the product pieces being identified with numbers not letters, it yielded confusion. What should have taken 30 minutes ended up taking over an hour with more head scratching than there should have been. Overall great piece. The box was severely damaged upon arrival and was taped up poorly. A few pieces fell out of the big hole in the box and got knicked up when bringing inside thebhouse...not worth returning over, but still unfortunate for a nice bed. All said, the bed looks nice and feels sturdy for my toddler.

Solid Frame – Worth It, Just Be Patient with Assembly
Size: Full, Style: Kai
Long Review:
Surprisingly solid bed frame—well-designed and very sturdy. The packaging was slightly damaged during shipping, but luckily the frame itself was untouched. The included ratchet tool was a lifesaver; tightening all those bolts gets tiring fast after the fourth or fifth piece. The instructions could use improvement. The printed manual uses letters for parts, while the frame itself uses numbers—this mismatch makes it a bit confusing at times. The numbered stickers are helpful, but without labels on the parts, you’ll have to rely on grouping them visually and cross-checking with the paper guide. Assembly doesn’t require much brainpower, but the most frustrating step was attaching the backboard. I recommend leaving all the bolts loose until everything is aligned; trying to force the bamboo headboard into place can lead to misalignment or even damage. TL;DR: Great bed frame, sturdy and simple to assemble. The ratchet tool is super helpful. Instructions are a bit confusing—but better than IKEA's. You got this!!

Looks great, not quite easy to assembly.
Size: King, Style: Leah
Mostly easy to put together. Instructions and it's labeling of parts was a bit confusing, but if you pay attention to orientation of parts and where the holes are at in the photo, you'll get it. We've been sleeping on it for 2 months now. No problems at all. Seems very sturdy and no creaking or squeaking. One bolt inset was stripped and wouldn't take the bolt (left middle crossmember) but with at least 1 in it, it's working fine. It's not load bearing really so it doesn't matter.
