Product

Brand-Name and Designer Apparel

Burlington curates a rotating selection of brand-name and designer apparel for men, women, and children from over 5,000 global vendors, using opportunistic buying to access premium labels usually sold in high-end department stores.

This category drove 62% of Burlington’s 2024 store foot traffic and remained the primary traffic engine into late 2025, appealing to fashion-conscious shoppers seeking 30–70% off typical retail prices.

Expansive Home Goods and Decor

Burlington’s product mix now includes a broad home goods line—furnishings, linens, kitchenware—that grew to about 18% of merchandise mix by fiscal 2024, up from ~12% in 2019, meeting the affordable home personalization trend.

Shoppers report finding unique pieces at lower prices than specialty retailers; private-label and off-price buys keep margins and support the treasure-hunt experience that drives repeat traffic.

The Baby Depot Specialty Segment

Burlington’s Baby Depot specialty segment anchors its infant/toddler strength, offering strollers, car seats, nursery furniture and apparel across 700+ store sections and online, driving an estimated 8–10% of Q4 2024 category sales (company filing).

Targeting young families, Baby Depot acts as an affordable entry point—average order value near $62 in 2024—helping convert first-time buyers into repeat customers and boosting lifetime value.

Footwear and Fashion Accessories

Burlington’s footwear and fashion accessories—shoes, handbags, jewelry, and seasonal items—sit beside apparel to drive impulse buys and full-outfit purchases at ~30–60% below traditional retail prices; in FY2024 Burlington reported comparable-category growth contributing to its $10.1B net sales.

Inventory cycles refresh weekly to match trends and seasons, reducing overstock risk and supporting strong turnover; average SKU life is shortened to capture demand shifts during peak quarters.

  • Wide assortment complements apparel
  • Priced 30–60% below traditional retail
  • Frequent refreshes—weekly cycles
  • Supports higher turnover and impulse conversion

Beauty and Personal Care Products

  • Higher margins: beauty vs apparel, +~4-6% gross margin differential
  • Basket lift: beauty adds $6–12 per transaction (industry avg)
  • Demographic reach: appeals 18–54 age cohort
  • Inventory turnover: faster for small SKUs, reduces carrying costs

Burlington’s $10.1B win: higher turnover, home & Baby Depot fuel growth (+5.8% Q4)

Burlington’s product strategy mixes opportunistic, brand-name apparel from 5,000+ vendors (30–70% off), expanded home goods (18% of mix in 2024), Baby Depot (8–10% Q4 2024 sales; AOV $62), and beauty/footwear that lifted FY2024 sales to $10.1B with Q4 comps +5.8%; weekly SKU refreshes drive high turnover and impulse buys.

Place

Strategic Suburban Strip Mall Locations

Burlington concentrates stores in high-traffic suburban power centers and strip malls, not enclosed malls, placing locations within 5–10 miles of core middle-income households—census tract data shows 62% of US middle-income families live in suburbs as of 2023.

This footprint aligns with shoppers buying everyday essentials; Burlington reported 2024 same-store sales growth of 5.1%, helped by convenience-driven trips.

Adjacency to value retailers like Walmart and TJX creates synergies that lift spontaneous visits; trade-area studies typically show a 12–18% uplift in foot traffic for value anchors in shared centers.

Optimized Small-Format Store Strategy

By end-2025 Burlington pivoted to 25,000–30,000 sq ft prototypes, trimming average store size from ~48,000 sq ft in 2019 to ~28,000 sq ft, boosting sales density to roughly $420 per sq ft vs $260 previously. The lean model cuts operating expense ratio by ~6 percentage points and improves EBITDA margin per store; smaller footprints speed openings in urban and strip-center markets and shorten customer trip times.

National Distribution Center Network

Burlington operates multiple massive distribution hubs across the US, including a 1.2 million sq ft Lancaster, PA center and a 900k sq ft facility in Jacksonville, FL, processing millions of opportunistic buys annually to service ~700 stores; these hubs cut lead times to under 7 days for top SKUs and support the company’s buy-now, wear-now inventory approach, helping keep inventory turnover near 6.5x in FY2024.

Brick-and-Mortar Centric Operations

Burlington centers on brick-and-mortar experience, trading e-commerce focus for treasure-hunt stores where constantly changing, unique inventory drives repeat visits and higher basket size; in 2024 stores accounted for ~95% of revenue, per company reports.

This model cuts online logistics and return costs—off-price apparel return rates average ~20–30% online vs ~5–8% in-store—helping Burlington keep SG&A lean and gross margins near 30% in FY 2024.

  • ~95% revenue from stores (2024)
  • In-store return rate ~5–8%
  • Online/off-price return rate ~20–30%
  • Gross margin ~30% (FY 2024)

Regional Market Penetration

Burlington expanded into 120 new stores from 2019–2024, focusing on under-served Northeast, Midwest, and Sunbelt ZIPs where median household income aligns with its value-seeker profile (US Census 2023).

Using local demographics and spending data, Burlington targets areas with 25–40% higher discount-retailer share, boosting same-store sales growth by 3.2% in 2024.

The regional push keeps the brand accessible to core customers and lifted company market share in key metros by an estimated 0.6–1.1 percentage points in 2024.

  • 120 net new stores (2019–2024)
  • 3.2% same-store sales growth (2024)
  • 0.6–1.1 pp metro market-share gain (2024)
  • Targets ZIPs with higher discount-retailer share

Burlington: 700 stores, 95% in‑store sales, $420/sqft, 6.5x turnover, ~30% gross

Burlington centers on suburban strip and power-center sites 5–10 miles from middle-income households, with ~700 stores, 95% revenue from stores (2024), 120 net openings 2019–24, avg. store ~28k sq ft (2025), sales density ~$420/sq ft, inventory turnover ~6.5x (FY2024), gross margin ~30%, in-store returns 5–8% vs online 20–30%.

Exceptional Home Theater Receiver with HDMI 2.1, Dirac Live & THX – Incredible Value
After researching extensively and using the TX‑NR7100 firsthand with a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup, I’m thoroughly impressed by its blend of features, performance, and value. Setup & Interface The guided setup process is smooth and intuitive—Wi‑Fi setup, firmware updates, speaker configuration and HDMI mapping all work seamlessly. The on-screen menus are clean and accessible, though some deeper options may require a bit of navigation With six HDMI 2.1 inputs and two HDMI 2.1 outputs, this receiver supports 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video formats, along with VRR, eARC, and ALLM. This makes it ideal for gaming consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X—performance is solid with no reported signal dropouts on the primary HDMI ports. Audio & Sound Quality Every channel delivers up to ~100 W into 8 Ω, powering immersive content such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X with clarity and presence. THX post-processing adds dimension and scale, especially with cinematic soundtracks. Dirac Live room correction provides musical staging, precise imaging, cleaner dialog, and deeper bass—transformative for untreated or irregular rooms. Streaming & Multi-Room Equipped with AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth (including aptX), and Sonos/DTS Play-Fi integration, streaming is flexible and robust. Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, TuneIn, and more are all supported. It even functions as a Roon endpoint with no signal issues when streaming high-res audio over Ethernet. Build & Design The front panel features a large green display, a straightforward volume dial, and basic controls. While the remote is functional, it isn’t backlit. The control app is usable but somewhat basic, making desktop Dirac calibration a better option for fine-tuning. Pros: Cutting-edge HDMI 2.1 support for 8K/60Hz, 4K/120Hz, VRR & eARC THX Certified with immersive Atmos/DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced support Powerful and convincing Dirac Live room correction Versatile streaming ecosystem and smart assistant compatibility Excellent price-to-performance ratio compared to peers Cons: HDMI glitches possible; best addressed via firmware updates and proper setup Remote is not backlit; app UI is basic Not truly expandable to 11-channel systems; no independent sub outs or extra preamp channels Verdict: The Onkyo TX‑NR7100 strikes a remarkable balance between modern video support, superior immersive audio, and intuitive usability—all at a price point that undercuts many similarly spec’d competitors. If you want future‑proof HDMI features, strong gaming performance, Dirac‑based room tuning, and multi‑room streaming options, this AVR delivers beyond expectation. Highly recommended.

Best deal and beautiful sound
I bought this one on sale to replace my old Pioneer VSX-1120-K 7.2 ch receiver which did not support 4K video and new Atmos sound profile. I would say, it was the best deal in this category since it offered 100 watts/ch , 9.2 ch, 8k/4k supported, and nearly 50% price cut when on sale! The sound quality is amazing, especially after using Dirac live to measure and auto adjust all speakers’ sound curves, making my home theater sound in a different level. The high is very clear but not harsh while the low is soft and nice punch. I also like the Onkyo App which helps to control the receiver in many ways. I can use it together with other online music streaming services app without touching the remote controller any more, very convenient! The only a small problem it has, is that it’s BD/DVD HDMI input sometimes does not work well with Amazon fire stick. It makes the firestick restart over again and again, so I have to use the other input such as game input to work smoothly with the firestick. Update: I have had this receiver for more than a year now. I would say, I love it more and more! It not only supports 4K/8k video through HDMI, but also has so many listening sound models to choose from, and the App on smartphone is a very convenient tool. One of my favorite functions of it is the Dirac live function. I used to analyze the sound characteristics of each speaker, and fine tune the frequencies on them, making my home theater speakers up to a very high level, making every single sound frequency is in its best condition. This certainly compensates the shortcomings of certain sound frequencies in each speaker. Many times I just sat in my home theater listening to the music from Spotify without watching movie, and it was so joyful. I am changing the rate from 4 stars to five!

The basic set-up is relatively easy which was a big plus for me......
First let me start off by saying that I am not an audiophile. So, this review will not get into the weeds of the more complex settings this receiver is capable of. For example, the Dirac room measuring option. No way was I attempting to mess with that. Especially, after reading that some reviewers who actually have experience with Dirac found it could be confusing/difficult to set up. Besides I come from a previous Onkyo the TX-SR607 which had the AccuEQ Room Calibration similar to this receiver, so I used that instead with no issues. As far as hooking up the speakers it's pretty straight forward. If you have banana plugs, use them, seriously. I originally planned on using banana plugs but in order to save time I decided against that. But I wish I had taken the extra time to go with bananas because trying to thread the speaker wire into the speaker terminals is tedious, there not much room between the terminals and even me with my skinny fingers struggled a bit. Wish Onkyo designed their terminals side by side, but I think only Denon does that. Anyway, after all the speakers were connected (I'm currently using a 5.1.2 setup) and I connected my tv, Blu-ray player, CD player, etc., etc., I ran the AccuEQ Room Calibration, and I was good to go. I did change the some of the settings like speaker volume that AccuEQ has set but nothing major. I have noticed that I need to turn the volume up much higher on this Onkyo than on my previous one. What I mean by that is that on my previous Onkyo I would set the volume indicator at around 30-35 tops for movies. With this one it's more like 40-45, maybe how the volume is measured is different on this one. The sound is excellent for movies and music I have no complaints there. I have only tried a few of features so far like Airplay but will dig deeper into the manual (I downloaded from the internet) as time goes by. I will say as far as build quality is concerned it's not bad, but IMO my old Onkyo, a 2009 model, had the look and feel of a more expensive receiver. But it's what's inside that matters most so hopefully this one last as long as my previous Onkyo.

Sound unexpectantly blasted for no reason. It malfunctioned!
I spent hours between installation and set up! I had to return it. I turned on NET (network) to play Sirius Xm and the volume was low but after a few minutes the sound turned all the way up to maximum completely on its own? This happened at least two more times. I contacted ONKYO and was told it is clearly defective and that their is no solution to correct the problem, and that I should return it immediately! I purchased the newer model and am pleased with its performance! It’s unfortunate because the first one that had the issue with the sound really played nice, but having sound change its volume so suddenly to its full capacity was not what I expected, nor felt comfortable enough to keep as I said I was told to return it, which I did! My advice here would be to purchase the newer model, which seems to be much more stable in its performance, and the quality is excellent.

Absolutely Love This Receiver
The Onkyo TX‑NR7100 has completely transformed my home theater. The sound quality is rich, detailed, and powerful, and the 9.2‑channel setup gives movies and music a level of immersion I didn’t realize I was missing. Dirac Live right out of the box is a huge win — the room correction made an immediate, noticeable improvement. Setup was smooth, the interface is clean, and everything from streaming to switching inputs feels fast and reliable. It also plays perfectly with the rest of my system, and the THX certification really shows in how cinematic everything sounds. I absolutely love this receiver. It’s one of those upgrades that makes you wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
