Da Ziyu

Nelumbo nucifera

Flower Color: Pink
Plant Height: Tall, 48” and taller
Flower Type: Multi-petal, more than 50 petals
Pot Size: 20” and wider, 12”-18” deep

Beautiful color and full flowers are trademarks of 'Large Purple Jade'. The first day colors are sweet and lovely. The exceptionally well-formed flower holds its shape well and does well as a cut flower in arrangements. The strong purple violet (red) color of the petals contrasted to the golden yellow of the receptacle makes this lotus a favorite! The flowers are considered to have a strong scent by the Chinese. The descriptive word 'large' in the name refers to the flower size, not the plant height.

HOW TO FERTILIZE LOTUS

For conventional fertilizer (tablets or loose prills) which releases quickly when water is added:

Wait until the lotus plant has several floating leaves or begins to put up aerial leaves before adding fertilizer.
Choose a good fertilizer such as Waterlily World Tablets, Pondtabbs or Landon’s Aquatic Fertilizer and follow the instructions carefully. The amount of fertilizer to use is usually based on the size of the pot and the amount of soil in the pot. For example, most of the small tablets are added at a ratio of 1-2 tablets per gallon of soil in the pot. Once the lotus has started to grow vigorously tablets can be added every 2-3 weeks. Stop fertilizing in late summer to allow the lotus to use up all the fertilizer in the pot before going dormant. This encourages the lotus to form better rhizomes.

For SLOW-RELEASE FERTILIZER like Nutricote 14-4-14, 100 day fertilizer:

*follow amount directions on package.
Place fertilizer around the bottom of the pot then add soil. Plant rhizome in the soil at the top of soil layer and let it grow down to find fertilizer. We use slow-release fertilizer but begin adding extra Pondtabbs after 3 months when growth gets vigorous and we continue adding extra fertilizer until late summer.
Do NOT use 360 day fertilizer because it will release fertilizer for too long and the lotus will not form as many rhizomes when it goes dormant.

Cute for small dogs, but my Malinois made it extinct in minutes
I ordered this plush toy for my Belgian Malinois, and I went into it fully aware of what I was doing. With my dog, “plush toy” basically translates to “short lived prey simulation,” and I’m honestly okay with that because it helps her satisfy that prey drive in a safe, controlled way. She is always under direct supervision when she has toys like this. The toy is cute, and the concept is fun. The wings and textures are engaging, and I can see how the squeaker/crinkle would be exciting for a small or medium dog that actually plays with plush toys instead of immediately performing surgery on them. For my dog though, it was not durable in any sense of the word. Within about 30 seconds, she had both wings ripped off. Within five minutes, the entire thing was shredded and gutted. It did its job as an enrichment “destroy me” toy, but if you’re buying this expecting it to last, it won’t hold up to a strong chewer. It’s also not quite as plush and soft as it looks in the listing photos. It’s more on the lightweight side, which might be fine for smaller dogs, but it felt a bit less cozy than I expected. I’m giving it four stars because it is a cute toy and would probably be a fun, engaging option for the intended size range, especially dogs that aren’t power shredders. For large breeds or dogs with intense chewing styles (or Belgian Malinois energy), just know it’s going to be a very brief relationship.

Great dog toy
It's been played with and shook pretty good from a Border Collie and a poodle, no rips yet and it's been like a month.
