Nepenthes × ventrata is a naturally occurring hybrid pitcher plant endemic to the Philippines. It is the result of a cross between Nepenthes graciliflora and Nepenthes ventricosa.

Here are some key characteristics and care tips for Nepenthes × ventrata:

Characteristics:

 * It's considered one of the most beginner-friendly Nepenthes due to its adaptability and ease of growth.

 * The pitchers are typically elongated and often have a red or orange hue, especially when exposed to bright light.

 * The peristome (the colorful, often ribbed or toothed rim of the pitcher opening) is usually well-defined and richly colored.

 * It tends to grow relatively quickly.

 * It can readily devour insects like ants, gnats, and mosquitoes.

Care:

 * Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. An east or west-facing window or a greenhouse with about 50% shade cloth works well. The leaves may develop an orange to red tint with sufficient light. Avoid intense, direct sunlight, especially during the summer, as it can burn the leaves. Artificial grow lights can also be used.

 * Water: Use non-calcareous water such as rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water from the top, allowing excess water to drain. Avoid letting the pot sit in standing water. You can mist the plant occasionally to increase humidity.

 * Humidity: Nepenthes × ventrata tolerates a wider range of humidity levels compared to some other Nepenthes species, but it thrives in humidity of 60% or higher. Misting can help if the humidity is low.

 * Temperature: Daytime temperatures of 70-80°F (21-27°C) and a slight nighttime drop of about 10°F (6°C) are beneficial. Avoid temperatures below 60°F (15°C).

 * Soil: Use a light and well-draining substrate specifically formulated for carnivorous plants. A common mix is sphagnum moss or peat with perlite, vermiculite, or non-limestone sand. Avoid regular potting soil, as it contains minerals that can harm Nepenthes.

 * Repotting: Repotting is generally not needed frequently, as Nepenthes don't mind being slightly root-bound. Repot in the spring if the plant becomes unstable, roots are growing out of the drainage holes, or the soil is breaking down.

 * Feeding: While they can trap their own food, you can occasionally feed the pitchers with small insects (live or dead), cricket powder, or fish food. Avoid feeding them meat. Some growers use diluted Maxsea fertilizer as a foliar feed or add Osmocote pellets to the pitchers sparingly.

 * Pruning: Trim away completely dried pitchers or brown leaves with clean scissors or pruning shears to encourage new growth.

Nepenthes × ventrata is a popular choice for both beginners and experienced carnivorous plant enthusiasts due to its attractive appearance and relatively easy care requirements. It's also commonly available in garden centers, sometimes mislabeled as Nepenthes alata (which is now considered Nepenthes graciliflora).

Anne Helped, I'm Thankful, and She'll Wow You Too!
Format: Hardcover
A small book with a big heart. Lamott writes with honesty, humor, and grace about prayer in a way that is accessible to believers, doubters, and everyone in between. “Help, Thanks, Wow” is simple without being shallow and deeply moving without being heavy. I return to it often.

Why write another review? There are already so many for this book.
Format: Kindle
It shouldn't surprise me that books that I like, by authors that I love, are extremely popular and well reviewed. This is the case with " . We might just as well ask, "Why write another book on prayer? The world is full of them." I could forego the review entirely, but I just can't do that because I love Annie (the author) so much and I cannot pass up the opportunity to say how much I appreciate her life and her work. While this isn't my favorite "Anne Lamott" book, it is certainly worth reading, if for no other reason than the entertainment value. Her words are so skillfully crafted and lyrical that it causes joy to spring up in my soul. This book will provide some insight into prayer for everyone; from the practiced, long-time prayer practitioner to the novice; from believer to agnostic. You will discover aspects of prayer that you had not appreciated before. This is not a technical treatise on prayer, but it did encourage me to pray and to be more faithful in prayer... to be more "in the moment" and to recognize the beauty that is everywhere around us. The day this came out I bought two copies, one for Kindle (which was formatted well and flowed smoothly) and the audio version (which I will listen to the next time through). I have several of Anne's other books in the audio version and I can say it is a real treat when she reads the books herself. Do not hesitate to buy this (or any other) book by Anne Lamott. You will be happily rewarded in the reading.

Understand your loss. Celebrate your gain. Live!
Format: Kindle
A quick look at what makes us human; our principal line of relationship to the Cosmos. Maybe not always reverent, but always livable and believable. This is a book, a primer, on how to deal with the mess of life. Written with enough seriousness and tongue-in-cheek humor to be readable and thought provoking.

An Invitation into the Heart of Reality
Format: Kindle
I love reading Anne Lamott. She helps me feel that it’s okay to be human. She helps me see that prayer is human. It’s the most natural thing you can do. And, really, everybody does it, whether they know it or not. In this delightful book, Ms. Lamott reflects on what she calls three essential prayers: help, thanks, and wow! Such human expressions! She invites us, the readers, into her perspective on life, infused as it is with both the mundane and the mysterious. There are times when it is even threatening. But we are not alone. We have each other, and we have God. (Or, better, God has us.). I don’t know that Ms. Lamott would want to be called an optimist, but she certainly sees the good in the bad (or, maybe after the bad). Life is both, she seems to say, but all is okay. So we ask for help when we’re wise enough (or desperate enough) to do so—both for ourselves and others. And we say thanks because life is full of reasons to be grateful. And there is so much beauty around us—and tragedy too—that we cannot help but erupt with wow! I urge you to read this book. Perhaps, as you read it, you will feel as I did reading it, that you are in a conversation with someone very wise and very compassionate and very real.

Another Thanks and Wow by Anne Lamott!
Format: Hardcover
I was first introduced to Anne Lamott's writing about 25 years ago when I read her book, Bird by Bird. It was a book about how to write and from that moment she became one of my favorite authors. Help, Thanks, Wow is a wonderful book that I have underlined and reread over and over again. Her writing has a voice that many of us can relate to. It's honest and you can feel her pain. She writes with humor to balance the good with the bad. Something that is so important to learn as we go through life. Her descriptions help you see, feel, and smell when she describes "autumn...the colors are broccoli and flame and fox fur. The tang is apples. The rot smells faintly of grapes..." She tells us how to ask for help when you can't do it all by yourself, but how important it is to say thank you, thank you, thank you and Wow for all the things you are grateful for. I loved when she wrote about how service to others is joy ,but how important it is to be kind to yourself. One of my favorite passages was this one, "This morning at six when I awoke, loneliness was sitting on my chest like a dental X-ray apron, even though I was buried in hairy dog love. Help, I am sad and lonely, and already it looks like today is going to be too long. I prayed...I did a kindness to myself, as I would have a troubled friend..." Her descriptions are all like this one and easy to relate to. I loved this book and have given it to friends who have then bought it for other friends. It is definitely a WOW!!!!
