Italian Honey Fig (Ficus carica 'Lattarula')

Italian Honey Fig is a productive, warm-season fruit tree that brings a Mediterranean feel and a sweet harvest to sunny gardens. Also known as Lattarula Fig, it produces green to yellow-green figs with amber, honey-sweet flesh that tastes great fresh and is excellent for drying and preserves. The bold, lobed foliage gives the plant a lush summer look, whether it is grown as a small tree or a multi-stemmed shrub. With good sun and drainage, it can be an easy way to add edible value without needing a large orchard space.

Distinctive Features

This variety is valued for its rich, honey-forward fruit flavor and reliable cropping, especially in areas with a solid stretch of summer heat. The figs typically ripen to greenish-yellow skin with sweet amber flesh, and plants can produce a main crop in late summer, with an earlier crop possible in warmer climates. Large, deeply lobed leaves add strong texture and create dappled shade around patios and garden edges. Like most common figs, it is self-fruitful, so a single plant can produce fruit when conditions are right.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun for best growth and fruit production.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil is essential, and it performs best in moderately fertile ground.
  • Water: Medium, keep evenly moist during establishment and water during extended dry periods for best fruit quality.
  • USDA Zones: 7 to 10, and grown as a container plant in cooler zones.
  • Mature Size: About 10 to 15 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide, smaller with pruning.
  • Habit: Multi-stemmed, spreading shrub or small tree with a dense summer canopy.
  • Foliage: Large, lobed green leaves that create a bold, tropical texture.
  • Flowers: Inconspicuous, with ornamental value focused on foliage and fruit.
  • Fruit: Greenish-yellow figs with sweet amber flesh, typically ripening in late summer.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Place as a sunny patio specimen where the bold leaves and hanging fruit become part of the everyday view.
  • Home Orchard: Grow as a productive fruit tree for fresh eating, drying, and preserves.
  • Edible Landscape: Blend into ornamental beds so the harvest feels integrated, not separate.
  • Patio Containers: Plant in a large pot to control size and allow winter protection in colder climates.
  • Warm Wall Planting: Site near a sunny, sheltered wall to improve ripening and reduce stress in cooler regions.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Prune in late winter to control size, remove weak wood, and thin crowded stems for better light and air flow.
  • Watering: Water deeply during heat and while fruit is sizing up, then let the soil dry slightly between waterings.
  • Mulching: Mulch over the root zone to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch off the stems.
  • Feeding: Use compost or a light feeding in spring, and avoid heavy nitrogen that pushes leaves over fruit.
  • Harvest: Pick figs when they soften and deepen in color, since they do not ripen well after picking.

Why Choose Italian Honey Fig?

  • Honey-Sweet Flavor: Produces green to yellow-green figs with rich amber flesh that tastes sweet and smooth.
  • Good Productivity: Can deliver generous crops in warm seasons, with potential for an earlier crop in favorable climates.
  • Ornamental Texture: Large lobed leaves add a lush, tropical look through summer.
  • Self-Fruitful: A single plant can produce fruit without a second fig for pollination.
  • Flexible Growing: Works in the ground in warm zones or in containers for patios and cooler-climate growing.

If you want a fig that looks good, tastes great, and fits into real-life garden spaces, Italian Honey Fig is a strong choice. Give it full sun, excellent drainage, and steady moisture while it establishes, and it can reward you with bold foliage and sweet fruit season after season.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.
