Senecio herreianus ‘Weeping Angel’ is a striking new variegated form of the popular Angel Tears, discovered and introduced by Paradisia Nurseries in Victoria as a sport of the classic green form. Sometimes called Senecio ‘Weeping Angel’ or variegated ‘String of Tears’, this trailing succulent showcases teardrop‑shaped leaves in an attractive mix of cream, pale green and soft pink, making it a captivating addition to hanging baskets, pots or shallow bowls.

The plant forms long, cascading stems adorned with fleshy, bead‑like foliage that can reach well over 60 cm, making it ideal for hanging displays. Its variegation intensifies when exposed to bright, indirect light, with the leaves occasionally blushed in pastel pink, especially during cooler months or when new growth emerges. In its native conditions, this succulent can tolerate long dry periods thanks to its ability to store water in its plump leaves.

Senecio ‘Weeping Angel’ grows best in a well‑draining, gritty succulent mix and appreciates regular watering throughout the warmer months, allowing the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between drinks. In cooler months, reduce watering to match its slower growth rate. The plant is frost‑tender and will thrive in temperatures above 5 °C, making it ideal for sheltered patios, sunrooms, or bright indoor spaces.

To maintain its elegant form, prune long stems as needed and feed sparingly with a low‑nitrogen liquid fertiliser at roughly 25% of the recommended strength. This gentle approach encourages compact growth and intensifies its beautiful colours.
