AZ‑NO3 Absolute Zero Nitrate – 4th Generation Nitrate Removal Formula

Restore pristine reef conditions with the new and improved AZ‑NO3 (Absolute Zero Nitrate)—now powered by its 4th Generation Formula and over two decades of proven success. This latest version utilizes cutting-edge cold-filtering and enzyme stabilization techniques to enhance clarity, boost potency, and ensure nitrate reduction at twice the speed of earlier formulations—even in ionically imbalanced or poorly maintained systems.

Available in:

  • 125 mL (treats 25–30 gal)

  • 250 mL (treats 50–60 gal)

  • 500 mL (treats 100–120 gal)

How It Works – The Science of Absolute Zero

At its core, AZ‑NO3 functions through aerobic cellular respiration, targeting nitrate molecules using a highly specific oxidoreductase pathway—not chemical binding or bacterial blooms.

  • The key enzymatic action mimics a "food source" for active enzyme maltase, which in turn activates oxidoreductases to convert nitrate into nitrogen gas.

  • The result: nitrate is exported naturally through your protein skimmer, not trapped or masked.

  • Contains no live bacteria, no complex sugars, and no yeast—no risk of unwanted microbial explosions or destabilization of your aquarium’s balance.

Think of it like planting a seed: the AZ‑NO3 formula contains the “food” for the right enzyme reactions to bloom inside your tank. These reactions culminate in complete nitrate breakdown without interfering with your tank’s natural microbial populations.

Fourth Generation Formula Highlights

  • Cold-filtered for purity, reducing clouding in systems with ionic imbalance

  • 2× faster nitrate reduction than previous formulas

  • Indefinite shelf life unopened; up to 60 days opened when refrigerated

  • No residue, no chemical masking, no false readings on any nitrate test kits

  • Safe for delicate reef systems, SPS corals, clams, and inverts

Product Sizes & Aquarium Coverage

Bottle Size Volume Treats
125 mL 4 oz 25–30 gallons
250 mL 8 oz 50–60 gallons
500 mL 16 oz 100–120 gallons

Perfect for reef aquarists, saltwater hobbyists, frag tank managers, and anyone battling persistent nitrate levels.

Dosage Instructions

Denitrification Phase (Initial Treatment)

  • Use ¼ oz (7.5 mL) daily per 50–60 gallons

  • Increase dose up to 2× if needed (safe for livestock)

  • Continue daily until nitrates reach 0 ppm

Maintenance Phase

  • Once nitrates hit zero, reduce dose to ½ of the original

  • Taper gradually and wean off completely as live rock or plenum takes over denitrification

  • Transition to weekly or biweekly doses as necessary

Immediate & Long-Term Effects

  • Nitrates reduced from 100+ ppm to absolute zero

  • Protein skimmer output increases dramatically—continues for up to 30 days post-treatment

  • Sediment, organics, and dissolved waste export improves, leading to more frequent filter pad changes

  • No impact on ORP or test accuracy, and fully compatible with all other aquarium additives, medications, and supplements

  • Not bacteria-based, so it remains unaffected by UV, meds, and water chemistry swings

  • Does not cause bacterial blooms, oxygen drops, or cloudy water

Note: You may need to supplement with iodine if skimmer efficiency becomes too high, as AZ‑NO3 can enhance nutrient export, including iodine.

Important Compatibility & Use Notes

AZ‑NO3 works reliably in most marine setups, but consider the following to ensure maximum performance:

  • Turn off ozone generators if O3 saturation exceeds 40%

  • Limit UV sterilizer output to below 50,000 µw-sec/cm²

  • Clean pre-filters frequently—clogged pads may reverse nitrate removal by breaking down maltase into nitrates again

  • Monitor ORP and aerate if necessary; AZ‑NO3 may reduce ORP slightly in tightly sealed systems

  • Use Polyfilter pads as an alternative to a skimmer to export bonded nitrate compounds

Why Choose AZ‑NO3 Over Other Nitrate Removers?

Feature AZ‑NO3 Other Nitrate Products
Works via Enzyme Respiration ✅ Yes ❌ Often bacteria or binders
Test Kit Friendly ✅ Accurate readings ❌ May give false 0 readings
Cold-Filtered, 4th Gen Formula ✅ Reduced clouding ❌ May cause haze or bloom
Safe for Reef Inhabitants ✅ 100% reef-safe ❌ Some unsafe for inverts
Compatible with All Additives ✅ Fully compatible ❌ Risk of chemical conflict
Shelf Stable (Unopened) ✅ Indefinite ❌ Limited
Yeast & Sugar-Free ✅ No byproducts ❌ Often includes organics

It works but not so sure about the EMI/RFI noise filtering claim
Color: Black, Size: 8 Outlet, Style: Outlets Only
I only buy surge protectors that have EMI/RFI noise filtering. I have a sensitive short wave radio with a sleep timer that I use when going to sleep. It has a rechargeable battery so you can either use it plugged in or on battery power. I've always had static on the radio when it was plugged into this surge protector. Cords generally do cause interference in radios so I thought nothing of it. But it started to get really bad. So I took one of my old tripplite surge protectors with emi/rfi noise filtering and plugged the radio into that. No static or interference on the radio at all. I went to APC's website to see if this model has EMI/RFI and it looks like it does....but it sure doesn't work well on mine. I don't want to disparage APC. I have several of their surge protectors. Just bought the big P12U2 model they have and love that one. I think it just has better circuitry than this budget model. I'm using the P12U2 on my TCL 55" TV that was flickering and was glitchy turning on and off with a different surge protector from another company. Anyways, the ACP P12U2 works great and appears to have excellent noise filtering. Just wish the P12U2 had a flat plug because I bought it to use for my computer, but couldn't because I couldn't push my desk up against the wall with that straight out plug. Anyways, I've strayed. This is a good basic surge protector I suppose. Would not recommend it for sensitive electronics prone to interference. Then again, maybe I just had a bad one, who knows. APC is a great brand. All my surge protectors are either APC or TrippLite. Can't go wrong either way.

It Works
This works fine. Good size. Good enough cord length. Does what a power strip should do.

Great for multiple adapters
Color: Black, Size: 8 Outlet, Style: Outlets Only
One of the common flaws of single width strips is the inability to accommodate more than 1 adapter unless you want to waste the sockets as the adapter obstructs/covers the adjacent sockets. This one has 2 rows with sockets at 90 degrees. As such, adapters face outward and do not obstruct adjacent sockets. Well made and sturdy, typical of APC quality. Hopefully the surge protection won't be tested but gives you peace of mind to know that all plugged in devices are protected. I have it mounted under my office desk using the mounting holes at the back. Great value for the money.

A household staple
Style: Data/Line Protection - 12 ft
I use this power strip for both my computer and entertainment setup, and it has been very reliable. The seven outlets give me enough room for everything without having to use multiple strips. The cord is long enough to reach the wall easily while keeping things neat. It sits flat on the floor and does not tip over when everything is plugged in. The layout of the outlets makes it easy to plug in larger adapters without blocking others. It has already gotten a lot of use and should give me plenty more for years to come.
