The Boysenberry Plant (Rubus Ursinus × Idaeus) is a truly unique hybrid berry vine prized for its vigorous growth, ornamental qualities, and abundant harvests. This plant is the result of crossing raspberry, blackberry, dewberry, and loganberry varieties, producing one of the most flavorful and versatile berries available. Its sprawling canes grow with a semi-trailing habit, making it well-suited for trellises, fences, or garden rows where it can display its elegant arching stems and lush green foliage. During the growing season, clusters of soft white blossoms appear, eventually transforming into glossy, plump fruits that range in color from deep maroon to almost black. Each berry is large, juicy, and sweet with a slight tang, offering a complex flavor that combines the best qualities of its parent species. This plant not only provides a delicious harvest but also adds ornamental value to the garden. Its rapid growth habit creates a lush backdrop of foliage, and its berries can be harvested in generous quantities once the plant matures. Gardeners appreciate its adaptability to a range of soil types and its ability to thrive with proper sunlight and consistent care. Whether planted in a home orchard, backyard garden, or as a decorative fruiting vine, the Boysenberry Plant delivers beauty and productivity in equal measure. Known for its fast growth and rewarding yields, it is a favorite among those looking for a reliable berry producer that also enhances the visual appeal of outdoor spaces.Physical Characteristics: The plant features arching green canes covered in lush foliage, accented by clusters of delicate white flowers in spring. Its fruit is large, plump, and glossy, with colors that range from deep maroon to near-black as they ripen. Each berry is packed with juice and delivers a distinctive balance of sweetness and tartness in every harvest.Light Requirements: Boysenberry plants perform best in full sun, needing at least 6 to 8 hours of direct light each day. Ample sunlight ensures healthy vine development, abundant flowering, and rich berry coloration. When planted in partially shaded areas, fruiting may be reduced, so a bright, sunny location is strongly recommended for maximum yields.Watering Needs: This plant thrives when watered consistently, particularly during its flowering and fruiting stages. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged, as excess standing water can cause root stress. A deep weekly watering is generally sufficient, though hot summer periods may require more frequent attention to maintain steady growth and berry production.Soil Preferences: Boysenberries prefer well-draining soil that retains moisture without becoming compacted. Loamy soil enriched with organic matter is ideal, as it helps the roots access essential nutrients and promotes steady growth. Avoid heavy clay soils unless amended to improve aeration, as loose and fertile soil encourages strong root development.Growth Habit: With its semi-trailing canes and fast-growing nature, the Boysenberry plant is best supported by a trellis or fence to encourage upright growth and easier harvesting. Canes can grow long and arching, requiring training and occasional pruning to maintain order. Given proper support, the plant creates a striking display of foliage and berries.

A must buy for the littles this winter.
Format: Kindle
Frostfire is a must buy for the littles this winter. I read through it once myself and absolutely loved the story and especially the illustrations. A very classic, winter whimsy. The second time I read Frostfire was with my 3 and 5 year olds. They also enjoyed it and had quite the debate over whether the snow dragon would be real. The 3 year old won! Looking forward to this book's release and coming across some frostfire in the real world this winter. Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

atmospheric illustrations and a story about sharing imagination
Format: Hardcover
I received this book as part of the LibraryThing EarlyReviewer program. The illustrations are photographs of collage, with some digital editing to add snow effects. It's a bit of an atmospheric "kids go for a walk in the snow" book, a la The Snowy Day, but for older kids. I liked how there was a subtle background story about children trying to navigate having slightly conflicting imaginative stories. It can be a challenge for a kid to learn how to do this when playing with others. The illustrations of the dragon especially were a wonderful surprise. My 8 year old loved the book and is happy that we get to keep it.

A Glittery Fantasy
Format: Hardcover
The author's sparkling illustrations highlight this magical tale of two fox sisters and their grand adventure in a snowy wonderland. What begins as a mild prank played by the older sister on the younger turns out to be a spectacular reality . . . or does it? This is a lovely salute to the imagination and the joys of childhood. Many thanks to the publisher for sharing.
