✨ Product Description

Bring charm and character to your plant collection with the Old Man Cactus—famous for its shaggy coat of soft, white hairs that resemble a wise elder’s beard. This tall, columnar succulent originates from central Mexico and is a long-lived, slow grower that can live for decades.

Its hair not only gives it a unique appearance but also serves a purpose—protecting the cactus from harsh sunlight and conserving moisture. Perfect as a statement piece indoors or as part of a warm-climate outdoor cactus garden.

📏 Plant Details

  • Mature Height: Up to 20–40 feet outdoors (slow growing; much smaller indoors)

  • Pot Size: Typically shipped in 2–4” nursery pots

  • Growth Rate: Slow and steady—ideal for patient plant lovers

🌱 Growing Zones

  • USDA Hardiness Zones: 9–11 (outdoors)

  • Can be grown indoors year-round in all zones

☀️ Light & Watering

  • Light: Full sun to bright, indirect light indoors

  • Water: Allow soil to completely dry before watering; less frequent in winter

  • Soil: Fast-draining cactus/succulent mix

  • Temperature: Thrives in warm, dry conditions (above 50°F); avoid frost

🌿 Growing Tips

  • Rotate your pot every few weeks for even sun exposure

  • Use a clay or terracotta pot to promote better drainage

  • Fertilize sparingly during spring and summer with cactus fertilizer

  • Avoid touching the hair too often—it helps protect the plant from UV damage

Not durable

Took 15 minutes to put up. Took less than 30 seconds for him to pull off bungee. Great concept but ball didn’t hold up.

Potentially incredibly dangerous, but also very fun
Pattern Name: Dog, Pattern Name: Dog
Edit to add. We've swapped out the toy for a rope with a ball on it (last picture) and it is much safer now. He's over 75 pounds now and it is holding up fine to the tugging *** Our 6½ month old puppy likes playing tug much more than any of us in the family do. He immediately fell in love with this toy. We attached the severed arm of another toy to it, which has a squeaker and that made it even more exciting. I want to give it more than 3 stars, but I can't because as is, it really is kind of dangerous. Because of the large loop the ball is attached to, a dog could get seriously hurt. My little (ok, he's not little since he's over 70 pounds already) guy shows in the video one way it could be a problem. They can get a leg caught in the loop, and get twisted up, harming their leg. Thankfully he didn't this time but it could easily happen. Worse, a dog might get their neck in the loop and have fatal results. All it would take to fix it is a thicker, shorter, single cord going from the main piece to the toy instead of the thin loop. We are going to fix it, but as is, PLEASE don't let your dog play with it if you aren't right there to help them.

Great chew toy for large, tough chewers
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
My dog is a heavy, strong chewer over 100 lbs who will chew this for an hour. It lasts, keeps him occupied and the smell isn’t terrible. Love the large size for a larger dog. Great buy.

Great for my aggressive chewers
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1), Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
Wears my Labs out. Fred the yellow lab chooses this pig ear over all his nyla and natural chews out of the toy box all the time. This is the 4th one in his 6 years. They have lasted long and when new are large enough I don’t have to worry about choking. As they get down in size I throw them just as a precaution. The only con I can think of is Fred loves to slam it down on the pergola floor which makes for a very loud clacky sound and it scares the $%^ out of me. He of course thinks it’s funny so he picks it up and continues to do it. As long as he and his brother Willie can chew I will always have these in their toy box.
