Agave americana is a perennial plant in the Asparagaceae family. Its native range is in Mexico and the U.S. Some familiar names are century plant, maguey, or American aloe. Even though it is called a Century plant, it only lives around 10-30 years. It is not an Aloe at all, even though it is called American Aloe. The flowers are edible, with the sweet liquid inside is called honey water. The plant will die after it flowers but produces babies throughout its life. It can grow to six feet tall without the Inflorescens and 10 feet wide. The inflorescence can reach 30 feet high and is quite a sight to see. The blue-green leaves have sharp spines on the leaf tips. Hummingbirds, birds, and small mammals are attracted to it. It prefers to grow in full sun in dry sandy soil with little water needs.  Zones 8-11

Germination

Agave Americana is also known as the American Century Plant. Start by soaking the seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours to soften the tough seed coat. Then, prepare a well-draining potting mix of sandy soil or cactus mix. Plant the seeds about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in the soil and lightly cover them. Maintain a warm temperature around 70-80°F (21-27°C) and keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy. Consider using a plastic cover or a small greenhouse to maintain humidity. Germination can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Once the seeds sprout, ensure they receive plenty of sunlight gradually. Patience and consistent care are key when germinating Agave americana seeds.

An enjoyable Simpson Comic
Format: Paperback
Now this is a fun book. It largely uses the same tv formula of irreverent humor to poke fun at the classics. The Simpsons and their extended family in Springfield play all the roles to perfection. The only thing that stops me from giving this a 5 star rating is that there are too many stories and they all seem slightly short and episodic.

A great way to introduce the classics to your kid
Format: Paperback
I mean it. It's very funny, yet introduces a number of important stories and characters from greek mythology and the Bible right though to Shakespeare. Will be funnier when my son reads the actual stories these are based on. A whole lotta compare and contrast will ensue, I imagine. I think it will pique his interest in the classics.

All around helpful---worth the money!
Format: Paperback
This guide has been most helpful for all the folks I help prepare for the iTEP test! It gives insight into what each section of the test is looking for along with examples and great tips about actually TAKING the test. In the Writing and Speaking sections, it also gives sample scores and comments from the Master Grader which is very helpful too.

Comprehensive, clear and coherent!
Format: Paperback
The iTEP Practice Guide combines a no-nonsense approach to the specific iTEP tests and at the same time offers exercises that task the student with what they need to know. Exercises not only serve the purpose of scoring well, but the overall approach is communicative competence. We use the text in our group and one-to-one classes with very positive--and lasting--results.
