Hymenocallis 'Tropical Giant Sister' is an amazing hymenocallis that makes a 3' wide clump of 30" long, glossy green leaves topped, starting in mid-June, with numerous 4'+ tall flowering spikes. The nocturnal, sweetly-fragrant flowers are composed of a central white cup, surrounded by long white sepals measuring an amazing 11" from tip to tip. Each spike holds up to a dozen flowers on long 6" pedicels. For us, it is the earliest flowering of the giant Mexican spider lilies, starting in late June (NC)...nearly a month before Hymenocallis 'Tropical Giant', which appears to be a different species. Hymenocallis 'Tropical Giant Sister' prefers a moist soil, but is very tolerant of extended dry periods. Thanks to the late bulb guru, Thad Howard, for sharing this just prior to his death.

Purchased this for our trip to Mexico. At two cruise ports we were doing a combination snorkel and pool day. I got this sunscreen because it was reef friendly and came with two bottles. You could not sunscreen yourself because you had to hold the bottle just right, push down with extreme force, and have your fingers place very specifically on the lid. My 13 year old and husband couldn’t even use the bottles. I did figure it out so I had to continually sunscreen everyone in the family. No one in my family has sensitive skin, but we all ended up with a fine rash after using this sunscreen. On days prior we used another brand and no one had a problem. We also reapplied often (every 60-90 min) and we still got pretty burnt. Maybe we got a bad batch…
