Pickle Plant is of the genus Delosperma in the Aizoaceae family. They’re native to the Dry Morning region of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. They're subtropical arid zone plants and are fleshy shrub plants. Their branches are densely grayish brown or light brown.

This plant’s leaves are barrel-shaped and bristle with soft spine-like hairs. And white or yellow flowers can be produced throughout the year.

It is a foliage ornamental plant with long branchlets covered with pearl-like leaves, which are delicate and elegant, along with small yellow flowers. It can be used for indoor decoration of several cases and wall hanging in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Care Tips

Light: They prefer full sun but can tolerate semi-shade. If there is not enough light, the plant will easily have excessive growth. The distance between the upper and lower leaves will be longer, making the plant more loose, and the stems will also become very fragile and delicate.

Water: The soil needs to be kept slightly moist for a long time to avoid waterlogging. Water is basically cut off throughout the winter, and when it’s below 41°F(5 °C), it is time to start slowly cutting off water. When the temperature exceeds 95°F (35 °C) in the summer, the growth of the whole plant basically stops. It is worth stating that in the summer, water is not cut off for the whole season, but only a small amount of water is given. Otherwise the old leaves tend to dry out, and watering is only on the side of the pot about 2-4 times a month (given at night).

Soil: It’s mainly loose and breathable loam, so the soil for potted plants can be mixed with sandy loam and coarse sand, and the right amount of fertilizer can be added to the soil as a nutrient for growth.

Potting: It is recommended to use ceramic pots. Ceramic pots have a certain degree of permeability. Clay pots lose water too quickly, and plastic pots tend to retain water for too long and permeability is poor.

Temperature: The optimal growing temperature is between 61-82°F (16-28°C). This plant needs three hours or more of direct sunlight each day so try to take it outside when the temperature increases to 50°F(10° C) or more

Humidity: Pickle Plant grows well in average household humidity levels. It doesn’t like too much humidity

    Care Instructions

Please visit our Succulent Care info page for more details.

To ensure the health of succulents, it is important to plant them in porous, well-draining soil. Succulents require little watering, but don't like to sit in wet soil. To create an adequate cactus mix, simply add pumice, perlite, or grit to cactus soil to provide the proper drainage.

Make sure to leave drought periods between waterings to prevent the plant from water-logging.

A remarkable story, illuminating and real.
      Format: Paperback
This book is a journey, the author’s journey and potentially the reader’s as well. A story that at once reveals the author’s walk of hundreds of miles, intertwined through steps of ancient history, beautiful and interesting places, and traversed by countless people who through the ages embarked on similar journeys of their own. There is a revealing honesty that comes through these pages allowing the reader to feel vicariously on a kind of journey of one’s own. With great admiration for this writer and for all those who have traversed so consummate a pilgrimage, I found myself searching my own soul, visualizing the vast and beautiful detailed descriptions, enjoying the frequent humor and occasional hilarity, at times laughing out loud, feeling deeply moved, filled with questions and ideas about the ways we all find ourselves traveling our lives. The people, fellow pilgrims the writer meets along the way, the experiences they share on their subjective journeys, are honored by this author as are the lives of those who came before them over the centuries. It is a book filled with surprises, joy, pain, beauty. An absolutely awesome experience to read.

      Good book …but some comments….
      Format: Paperback
I too, have to agree with another reviewer giving four stars. I also noticed his comments on beautiful women and wondered how “Leslie” at home felt about it as well. And the wine he mentions far outweighed any reference at all to the necessary need for water on such a walk. Comments in the last few chapters on walkers who only walked the last few miles seemed a bit snarky. But he made me laugh out loud several times and I found it to be an enjoyable, entertaining read. I can only hope Leslie, at home, felt the same ! Having read many books on the Camino, this was a good read. His tragic experience earlier in life makes me give him a hug and big thumbs up for finding meaning in life and going for it. Thanks, John.

How One Journey Can Change You Emotionally, Spiritually, and Personally!!!
      Format: Paperback
i've been interested in the Camino de Santiago for several years. I have seen several Youtubes on the Camino, plus read other books. Nothing has stirred me as much as this book. I felt like I had walked the entire Camino with John. I was nervous when he was nervous, laughed when he laughed, and cried when he cried. He absolutely captures the entire Camino, right to the end. I learned so much, not only historically, but also emotionally and spiritually. When I got near the end of the book, I didn't want to finish it and put it down, because I didn't want the journey to end!!! But I'm glad that I picked it up the next day and finished it, because the best part was at the end. The emotions were overwhelming to me. Great book. Now, I just have to put on my shoes and go (but not without proper preparations!!!)

The Best Narrative about the Real Camino
      Format: Kindle
I have read many, many books about the Camino de Santiago and this is by far the best. It is so clearly written that I felt myself walking along with John Pearson. His description of every aspect of the Way is accurate and wonderful to read. I only walked the last 100 km, but feel now like I walked the whole way and enjoyed it without the blisters! If I were younger, I would definitely walk the entire way but am so glad John wrote his experience so that I at least can imagine what it was like. Thank you for the Most Excellent Book!

      Finding God every 20 Miles
      Format: Paperback
What an enriching experience it was to read John's journey on the Camino de Santiago! By the third day of reading John's experiences on the Camino, I realized how much I was looking forward to reading another chapter or two after dinner with my family. After reading his chapter entitled "The Whale in the Room," I was so moved that I shared what I'd read with my wife, Cathy and son, Alex and told them how blessed I was to have them safe and near me. What a magnificent allegory of life that the Camino de Santiago is for so many peregrinos! Thank you John for letting me walk nearly 500 miles in your Merrell Moab "moccasins!" And forgive me for earmarking a few pages along the way, I want to re-read those key pages with your wisdom until the end of my Camino on this earth. Buen vida y buen Camino Peregrino!
