Success with Lavender:

Originating in the Mediterranean, lavender prefers hot sunny days, dry air, and non-enriched, well-drained soil. While that’s great news for those gardening in the West, nowadays lavender can also be successfully grown in higher-humidity areas of the East and Pacific Northwest very successfully by remembering its basic needs. Be sure to pick a variety that is matched to your area. Depending upon your location and your desired use, there are lavenders for almost any setting. Next, follow the four basic elements to ensure lavender success:

1. SUN Lavender loves sun. Plant them in a sunny location where there is plenty of air circulation. Six to eight hours of sun is best, but some afternoon shade is fine in the hotter climates of the Southwest.

2. AIR Good air circulation is essential, especially in areas of high humidity. Lavender is not fond of damp, still air, which makes it prone to root rot. In humid areas, plant them with ample spacing, keeping in mind the mature size of your plant when in bloom and allowing for a bit extra space for good circulation.

3. SOIL Well-drained soil. This is perhaps the most important factor in success with lavender. One rule of thumb from is that the soil should be loose enough to dig with your hands, and not cake-like. You can add sand or small gravel to recreate this consistency if your soil is too compact. In areas where drainage may be a problem, mound the soil up to create a raised row or stand-alone mound.

In humid areas especially, a 1-2” mulch of pea sized gravel or white sand will do two things – it will help improve drainage, and it will reflect heat and light back up into the plant. More heat = more fragrant blooms! If you use a weed barrier, make sure it is breathable so the soil can drain and the roots can breathe. Gardeners struggling with growing lavender successfully in humid areas are encouraged to try planting Lavender Phenomenal.

4. WATER During the first year of your lavender’s growth it needs to establish a good root system. It will require regular watering (unless you’re experiencing healthy rain fall). Starting in the second year, your lavender will need less water, as it becomes the water-thrifty plant you’re hoping for, but to get there it needs to grow deep roots in year one. By the end of year three it will have reached its mature size and shouldn’t need any extra water. If water is needed, water in the morning, and deeply, to help root growth. A mature lavender plant is happy with only 9-12 inches of rain per year, but remember, with the right variety and good drainage lavender can thrive with more water.

Super Soft and Cozy Hoodies
Size: X-Large, Color: Black Heather Pullover, Size: X-Large, Color: Black Heather Pullover
Product: Eversoft Fleece Hoodie Brand: Fruit of the Loom Positives: Super soft and cozy. Light weight and really warm. Easy to pull over. The material is quality and for the cost is an extremely great value. There is an assortment of colors to choose from. Hoodies to go with everything. I am super happy with my purchase and the deal that I got. Negatives: Not super thick, but also fluff up a little after the first wash. Overall Impression: The hoodies look great and are a super good value. I use them daily and recommend them to anyone looking for a good hoodie that doesn’t cost a fortune. There are plenty of colors to choose from, to wear with anything for any occasion, at anytime.

Will buy more
Size: X-Large, Color: Black Pullover
This sweatshirt is a great basic that works for everyone. The fit is comfortable and true to size, but also looks good a little oversized if you prefer a looser style. The material is soft on the inside and warm without being too heavy. It’s perfect for men, women, and teens — super easy to layer or wear on its own. The quality is better than expected for a generic sweatshirt, and it’s held up really well after multiple washes with no shrinking or fading. Simple, cozy, and a great everyday sweatshirt for all sizes and genders!

Comfortable Everyday Hoodie
Size: Large, Color: Black Pullover
This hoodie is a great basic to have on hand. The fleece material is soft and comfortable, and it provides just the right amount of warmth for cooler mornings and evenings. The fit was true to size, and it held up well after washing without losing its shape. My husband likes wearing it for everyday errands, walks, and casual outings. It's comfortable, lightweight enough to layer, and easy to throw on when you need an extra layer. A solid, affordable hoodie for everyday wear.

solid basic hoodie - but please don't sew the draw string in Fruit of the Loom!!
Size: XX-Large, Color: Black Pullover
I love these hoodies and actually have a few of them in my wardrobe - I would give them a 5-star as they're very comfortable, hold-up well to wear and tear, and they're pretty warm... They don't shrink or bleed dye in the wash, great stuff. HOWEVER! They recently started sewing the drawstring in, which is really annoying... I wear the XXL size and the hood is still a bit small for my dome, so I typically don't need the drawstring, but now I can't remove it without trying to remove the stitching and damaging the hood or cutting the ends off, leaving most of them inside the hood - meaning you can't replace the drawstring should you want to (which sometimes I do, like if I'm skiing or what not)... I also work with power tools, which make loose ends like drawstrings outright dangerous, so I really need to be able to remove them easily - I would give these hoodies a 5-star if they stopped sewing the drawstring in
