Futo Spindle Bitter Melon is a bumpy or warty-skinned variety of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia),  often called Indian Bitter Melon. The bumpy varieties have a stronger flavor when compared to the smooth types. Bitter melon is often stir-fried, stuffed, pickled, or used in soups and herbal teas for its nutritional benefits. This heat-loving vining plant thrives in full sun, well-drained soil, and warm temperatures, producing vigorous climbing vines that benefit from trellising. Regular harvesting while fruits are young and tender ensures the best flavor and continued production. With its high yield, fast growth, and culinary versatility, Futo Spindle Bitter Melon is an excellent addition to any summer garden!

PLANTING
Germination: 8-10 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1" deep 

Sowing: Soak seeds the seeds overnight. It needs warm soil temperatures to germinate. Can direct sow once outside temperatures are consistently in the 70F's or above. Or start seeds indoors 6 weeks before your last spring frost date, in a larger sized pot like a solo cup, and place it over a heat mat. In warmer climates (zones +9) can also direct sow or start seeds in June/July to get another harvest before winter comes.   

Days to maturity: 50-70 days
