De Brighamia insignis, beter bekend als de ‘Hawaii Palm’, is een tropische blikvanger met een bijzonder verhaal. Deze zeldzame kamerplant dankt zijn naam aan zijn oorspronkelijke thuis: de eilanden van Hawaï. In het wild is hij inmiddels bedreigd en komt hij nog maar op een paar plekken voor.

De Brighamia Insignis ‘Hawaii Palm’ is een makkelijke kamerplant met een tropisch tintje. Geef hem wekelijks water en zet hem op een zonnige plek. Verliest hij af en toe wat blad? Geen zorgen – dat hoort erbij en helpt bij de vorming van zijn kenmerkende stam. Dankzij die dikke stam kan hij ook prima een paar weken zonder water.

Waterbehoefte Hawaii Palm - 25cm

De Brighamia Insignis heeft wekelijks water nodig, maar laat de grond eerst goed opdrogen. Te veel water kan wortelrot veroorzaken. Dankzij zijn dikke stam slaat de Hawaii Palm water op en kan hij moeiteloos een tijdje zonder.

Lichtbehoefte Hawaii Palm - 25cm

De Hawaii Palm is van nature dagen gewend met 12 uur lang zonlicht. Hierdoor is het verstandig om deze palm op een licht plekje te zetten. Doordat de bloeiperiode van de Hawaii Palm ‘s winters plaats vind is het verstandig om hem juist in de winter goed in het licht te zetten.

Cute toys but not for tough chewers. Might be too thick for my 6 lb girl
These are fun for the right dog, but not a good choice for all. They're a good size for medium dogs and some small dogs, but "small" is relative I guess and the size of this toy won't work for all small dogs. I definitely expected these to be smaller, though I measured and they are the size shown in the listing (for those in the US it's about 2 1/4" by 4 3/4"). I think one thing that surprised me is how tall (?) they are, or maybe thick? They show two measurements in the listing but not the other. That's the one that makes a big difference with small dogs, especially really small dogs like mine. I have a 6 lb Maltese with a teeny tiny mouth so I have to find toys that she can fit her teeny mouth around. She loves toys with nubbies and has other "spiky" toys like this, but so far hasn't been too interested and I wonder if it's because it's too thick. If she doesn't give them a try we have doggy friends who are big enough for them, more the 12-16 lb size. There was a bit of smell on them when I first opened the package, but after giving them a quick wash (which I do with all chew toys like this) the smell was completely gone. Whatever it was must have just been on the outside because it hasn't come back. I can't really say how durable these are, but I doubt they'd be good for tough chewers. They're not super soft but in the world of dog chewing they're medium at best. They're very cute and if you have a medium to soft chewer they could be a great addition to the toy basket. They also have a hole down the middle which could be filled with something to lick out, another way to keep them busy. Can't say any of this makes them worth the rather high price asked though.

Be careful, not for strong chewers
Sad to give a 1-star review on these bones, I had such high hopes. They’re a great size and design, and my dog was excited to get one when I gave it to her… until I happened to look down at her, having just given her the toy moments before, and she had chewed off a large chunk and was trying to ingest it! Fortunately I caught this and was able to get it out of her mouth before she swallowed it. My girl loves chewing on toys like this but I guess she’s too aggressive of a chewer for these(?) though she’s NEVER chewed a piece off of a toy before. Sadly this bone, and the remaining two in the bag, went in the trash.
