Description:
Monstera adansonii, affectionately called the Monkey Mask, is a unique and playful member of the Monstera family. It gets its nickname from the distinctive oval-shaped holes (called fenestrations) in its leaves that resemble a monkey’s face—or a leafy piece of Swiss cheese!
This fast-growing trailing or climbing plant brings an exotic jungle vibe to any indoor space. It looks gorgeous in hanging baskets, cascading down a shelf, or climbing up a moss pole or trellis.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Enjoys bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light, but the fenestrations may be less prominent. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight—it can burn the delicate leaves.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm (about an inch) of soil feels dry. Like many aroids, it prefers slightly moist soil but doesn’t like sitting in water.
Humidity:
Loves humidity! Higher humidity levels will help it thrive and produce those iconic holey leaves. Mist regularly or use a humidifier, especially during dry months.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm indoor temperatures, ideally between 18°C to 28°C (65°F to 82°F). Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix—an aroid mix with coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark works great.
Fertiliser:
Feed every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. No need to fertilise in the colder months.
Pet Friendly:
❌ No. Like other Monsteras, this plant is toxic if ingested, so keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
