The Brasil Philodendron brasil, also known as Philodendron hederaceumbrasil’, is a popular and easy-care houseplant known for its colorful, variegated leaves and vining growth habit. It gets its name for its resemblance to the colors of the Brazilian flag. The brasil plant boasts heart-shaped leaves with vibrant green and lime-yellow stripes that brighten up any indoor space. It’s often featured in modern interior designs, bringing life and color to spaces with its cascading vines.

The ‘brasil’ is also well-known for its air-purifying qualities, as it can help filter toxins from indoor air, contributing to a healthier home environment. It is a member of the Araceae family, the Philodendron brasil is often mistaken for pothos due to its similar vining habit and heart-shaped leaves. However, its unique coloration and adaptability make it a prized choice for indoor gardeners looking to add a touch of the tropics.

Native to Central and South America, Philodendron brasil thrives in tropical rainforests, where it naturally grows as a climbing or trailing plant.

In its natural habitat, it uses aerial roots to attach itself to tree trunks, which allows it to reach for dappled light through the dense canopy. This tropical origin makes it particularly well-suited for warm, humid indoor environments, where it can easily adapt to lower light levels and grow lush, cascading vines.

Its natural adaptability to both climbing and trailing forms makes it a versatile choice for hanging baskets, shelves, or as a table-top vine.

The Philodendron brasil has heart-shaped leaves with a soft, smooth texture and unique variegation, featuring deep green edges with bright, lime-green and chartreuse streaks running down the center. Each leaf varies in its pattern, giving the plant a dynamic, multi-toned look.

As it matures, the plant can grow vines that reach several feet in length, creating a beautiful cascading effect when grown as a hanging plant. With a mature height of about 2 feet in container settings and trailing vines that can extend to 6 feet or more, it’s a perfect fit for indoor spaces looking to achieve a lush, tropical look.

Philodendron ‘Brasil’ rarely flowers indoors; however, in its natural environment, it produces small, insignificant flowers typical of the philodendron family. These blooms, while not particularly showy, appear as spathes and are designed to attract pollinators.

Its popularity has grown alongside a surge in demand for variegated and tropical plants, making it a favorite for both beginner and seasoned plant collectors. With its forgiving nature and bold coloration, it’s frequently recommended as a top choice for those looking to start their plant journey.

When and How to Water Your Brasil Philodendron

This is a pretty chill plant when it comes to watering – it's quite drought-tolerant, which means it can handle a bit of neglect when it comes to watering. It should never be kept in soggy soil for long, because Philodendron brasil is sensitive to excessive watering.

In the spring and summer growing season, water your Philodendron Brasil thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, usually about once a week for established plants. This plant is somewhat drought-tolerant, so if it’s mature and well-rooted, it can handle slightly extended periods between waterings if needed. Just be sure to allow any excess water to drain from the pot to prevent waterlogging and protect against root rot.

As the plant enters its dormant season in the fall and winter, you'll want to reduce the frequency of watering. During this time, let the soil dry out a bit more between waterings, but still ensure that the plant doesn't completely dry out. It's best to water less often during the dormant season to mimic the plant's natural growth cycle. Overall, aim to water your Philodendron brasil moderately, ensuring the soil is consistently moist but not waterlogged, to keep this lovely plant happy and thriving.

Light Requirements – Where to Place Your Philodendron brasil Plant

When it comes to Philodendron brasil indoor care, it thrives in bright, indirect light. Place your Philodendron brasil near a window where it can receive plenty of filtered sunlight throughout the day.

Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. If you notice the variegated leaves losing their vibrant colors, it may be an indication that the plant is not receiving enough light.

For outdoor cultivation, it’s essential to find a spot that offers filtered sunlight or partial shade. This climbing plant can handle some morning sun or dappled sunlight but should be protected from harsh afternoon sun, which can cause leaf burns.

Ensure it's in a location where it can benefit from gentle sunlight without being exposed to intense rays for extended periods. By providing the right balance of light indoors and outdoors, you can help your Philodendron brasil thrive and show off its beautiful foliage.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

For the Philodendron brasil, it's essential to use well-draining soil that retains some moisture but doesn't become waterlogged. A good mix for this plant would be a blend of peat moss, perlite, and regular potting soil to provide adequate drainage while retaining some water for the plant's roots. This type of soil will help prevent overwatering and root rot, allowing your brasil plant to thrive. Ideally, you want to use our specialized potting mix, opens in a new tab that contains 5 natural substrates and organic mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your brasil plant to thrive.

When it comes to fertilizer, you can feed your climbing Philodendron brasil with a balanced liquid NPK fertilizer with an equal ratio of 5-10-5, during the growing season in spring. Fertilize your plant once a year to provide it with the necessary nutrients for healthy growth and vibrant foliage. During the dormant season in fall and winter, you can reduce or stop fertilizing since the plant's growth slows down during this period. By following a consistent fertilizing schedule and using well-draining soil, you can ensure that your Philodendron brasil remains healthy and happy.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors, the Philodendron brasil thrives in typical indoor temperatures ranging from 65-85°F. It prefers average to high humidity levels, so it's beneficial to provide some extra humidity through methods like misting the leaves or using a humidifier, especially during dry winter months when indoor air tends to be drier. Maintaining a comfortable temperature and humidity level indoors will help your Philodendron brasil grow lush and healthy.

For outdoor cultivation, this plant is typically suitable for outdoor growth in USDA zones 10 to 11, where temperatures generally stay above 30°F. In these zones, the Philodendron brasil can thrive in a shaded or partially shaded area with warm temperatures and high humidity levels. By ensuring the plant is protected from cold drafts and extreme temperature fluctuations, you can help it flourish in an outdoor setting within the appropriate hardiness zones.

Philodendron brasil prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 60-80%. If outdoor humidity levels are lower, consider misting the plant regularly or using a humidifier to create a more suitable environment for growth.

Wildlife – Brasil Plant Attracts the Following Friendly Pollinators

The Philodendron brasil is known to attract pollinators by heating up its flowers such as bees, butterflies, beetles, and hummingbirds with its vibrant foliage and unique variegation. While the primary method of pollination for Philodendron plants is through wind and self-pollination, having these pollinators around can still benefit the plant and contribute to a healthy ecosystem. The attractive leaves of the Philodendron brasil can catch the eye of pollinators, adding beauty to your indoor or outdoor space.

Toxicity: According to the ASPCA, the brasil plant is considered mildly toxic to pets and humans. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation and discomfort if ingested by animals. But it is safe to touch and handle, as long as the sap is not ingested.

How to Propagate Philodendron brasil

To propagate your Philodendron brasil, you can use stem cuttings. Choose a healthy stem with a few leaves and make a clean cut just below the node. Place the cutting in water or a well-draining soil mix, ensuring the node where the leaf meets the stem is submerged or buried. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment with indirect light, and roots should start to develop in a few weeks. Once the roots are established, you can transplant the cutting into a pot with potting soil to continue growing your Philodendron brasil collection.

Key Takeaways

  1. Philodendron brasil is moderately drought-tolerant, making it resilient in low-water conditions and perfect for those who may occasionally forget to water.

Great book! Little known knowledge shared by a true master!
Format: Paperback
The book arrived on time and in great shape. I had just attended an in person conference by the writer of this book, Donna Eden, and left the conference feeling so much more empowered that I had to know more. Through personal health challenges that left her in constant pain and bedridden in her twenties, and doctors unsure how to help her, Donna Eden who is now in her seventies or eighties, became her own guru!! Utilizing different natural ways of healing and learning all about energy medicine she developed her own personal brand of energy medicine. She is healthy and thriving over 5 decades later. Loaded with information that will change your life and your health in this book she shares with you the knowledge and the energy medicine exercises so you can help yourself. I now own all her books!

Good Book, Very Practical
Format: Paperback
This is a very interesting read and has some great exercises in it. I really enjoyed the book. Then I went on-line and watched a couple videos of Donna Eden speaking, and I have to say she seems like a New Age looney tune, all wide eyes, soft voice and gigantic fake smiles. Itʻs a shame, really, because energy medicine is an important field and having spaced out people representing it gives it a bad name and makes it seem less valid. However, like I said, it is a good book and worth reading. Few books about the energy body actually give exercises on how to work with it yourself, so this gets over the hurdle of other books like Barbara Brennanʻs Hands of Light where if you want to learn the techniques you have to pay a lot of money and go in person to a seminar.

Book has tons of practical information and interesting stories
Format: Paperback
I have been following Mantak Chia's inner smile book and trying to understand the 5 elements theory for a long time. Donna has not only explained how to use it in detail and but more about Chinese medicine in a way that is simple. There is a large bibliography she draws from as well as her own papers. She has combined kinesiology, her special talents, and her personal insights to create a powerful healing book. I am a layman who is trying to heal herself and I have stopped my prescribed Chinese herbs after a few days since implementing her program. It's a wholistic book written with as much information as she can impart with the feeling that she is trying to give you as much information as she can because she cares that you implement her exercises correctly. Mantak Chia said to just try it. Donna Eden tries to explain the functions but if you don't believe her reasoning or her whyfores, just try it. It's faster and easier and more gratifying than any other system I have used. She is top of the class in healing arts. I didn't find this book until a month ago, where I was incontinent, depressed, headachy, and constantly low on energy. Thanks to her book I will save a lot of money on diapers, herbs, pharmaceuticals. My burning bladder noninfections are a thing of the past. My 8 year search is over, no more empty answers.

Life Changer!
Format: Paperback
Excerpt: “One of my first clients was a woman with ovarian cancer who came for a session with the hope that I could help her relax her body and prepare it for surgery that was scheduled in five days. She had been told to “get her affairs in order,” as her immune system was so weak that her chances of surviving the surgery were limited. Metastasis was also suspected. From looking at her energy, I was certain that the cancer had not metastasized. While her energy was dim and collapsed close to her body, the only place that looked like cancer to me was in her left ovary. In addition, the texture, vibration, and appearance of the energy coming up through her ovary were responsive to my work with her. I could see and feel them shift, and by the end of the session, the pain that had been with her for weeks was gone. I told her that her body was so responsive to what I had done that I wondered about her plan to have surgery. I was concerned that her immune system was indeed too weak, and I was confident that by working with her energy, not only would her immune system be strengthened, but the tumor’s growth could be reversed as well. While I carefully made my statements with the strong disclaimers required to avoid immediate arrest for practicing medicine without a license, she responded with horror to the implication that she cancel the surgery. I suggested that she at least delay the operation for two weeks. She scheduled a session with me for the next day and said she would discuss the surgery with her husband. That evening, I received a call from her husband. He was outraged and threatening. He called me a quack. He said I was putting his wife’s life in jeopardy by giving her false hope, and he told me I would never have another chance to confuse her like this. He made it clear that she would not be coming back. When I began to respond, he hung up. I called back a short while later. She answered. Talking in hushed tones, she was clearly uncomfortable speaking with me. I said, “Okay, don’t postpone the surgery, but please keep your appointment tomorrow. You don’t have to pay. You have nothing to lose. I believe in what I am saying. In fact, I want you to bring your husband in with you. Find a way!” She did not believe he would come in, but the next day, they both arrived for the appointment, with the offer to see her for free having quelled some of his suspicions that I was a charlatan out to make a buck. I had her lie down on the massage table. My hope was to find a way to give this traditional and skeptical man, so poignantly fierce in his protection of his wife, an experience of healing energy that his senses could not deny. I could see a dark dense energy at the site of his wife’s left ovary, and it felt like my hand was moving through a muddy swamp. I asked the husband to place his hand a few inches above the area and begin to circle it, using a motion that tends to draw energy out of the body. To his surprise, not only could he immediately feel that he was moving against something, within two minutes his hand was pulsing with pain. And to his utter amazement, his wife reported that her pain diminished as his increased. By the end of the session, she was again pain free, felt better, and looked better. I showed them both, through the use of energy testing, that we had been able to direct healing energies from her immune system to the area of her tumor. I taught him a set of procedures to use with her every day. They decided to temporarily postpone the surgery and to ask for further medical tests before rescheduling it. After about ten days of these daily treatments from him and three more sessions with me, she went through the additional testing. The tumor was gone...” I first came across Donna on youtube, and after watching her demos and hearing her story I had to pick up this book. And I'm sure glad I did! She is one of those rare angels that God truly spent a little more time on to heal and bring light to others. I feel such an affinity with everything she touches on especially when she talks about the wounded healer. From this excerpt and watching her, I can tell that Donna is one of those souls who is truly in touch with her spirit and lives securely through her high self. Thank you Ms. Eden for sharing your gift and grace with the World!

Dr. Woollacott’s bold and fascinating book breaks new ground ...
Format: Hardcover
Dr. Woollacott’s bold and fascinating book breaks new ground in the current debate about whether consciousness is created by the physical brain, or whether consciousness is “primary,” an elemental force that exists independently from the brain. What impressed me is that I could view her book through two very different perspectives: it’s at once both scholarly and a very enjoyable read. As I read her book, I found myself going back and forth between enjoying the stories and examples she provided, and the scientific evidence and analysis she offers. I was truly surprised to see that there are quite a few MD’s, psychologists, and neuroscientists doing rigorous, peer-reviewed research into these areas. Dr. Woollacott not only summarizes this research very clearly but provides many compelling case-studies quoted in this research that seem impossible to explain in terms of our current understanding of the brain. In addition to crafting a careful and thoughtful review of the research that supports the reality of NDEs, reincarnation, and energy healing, Dr. Woollacott also describes some of her own highly mystical experiences. This is perhaps one of the strongest elements in a book that has many compelling aspects to it. By telling her own story of being “awakened” by an Indian swami and of then having classic mystical experiences that most of us think could only have happened “way back when,” she adds her own impressive data point to the discussion about the nature of consciousness. I was fascinated to see how this experience was so powerful that it instantly turned her from an atheist into a person who knew beyond doubt that “something else” was going on. But then again, almost all the stories in this book were both dramatic and convincing. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes one of those “milestone” books. The research she surveys and the personal transformation she shares are dramatic enough and credible enough to provoke intense conversation and debate. It’s hard to ignore what you’ll read in this book (unless you’re a scientist who prefers belief to data). As they say, once you’ve seen this material, you can’t unsee it.
