Hymenocallis 'Apalachicola Angel' is a 2024 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a clonal selection of the rare (G3 rank) Hymenocallis duvalensis, made by the late Vic Lambou, from the Ochlockonee River of Northern Florida. Hymenocallis duvalensis, known from only a small region along the border of Georgia and Florida, naturally occurs in forested floodplains. The deciduous Hymenocallis duvalensis produces two small green leaves per bulb, and spreads nicely via underground rhizomes. The 16" tall flowering stalks, which appear for us in late spring, are topped with 2-3 large white flowers that are deliciously fragrant as they open. We have found these to grow quite well in part sun and in soils that have average to excellent moisture.
