Haworthia cymbiformis var. obtusa is a small succulent prized for its translucent, rounded rosettes, which give it the appearance of polished glass. Its glossy, fleshy foliage makes it a fascinating plant, often nicknamed the "stained-glass plant" for its unique luminous reflections.
Origin: Native to South Africa, where it grows naturally in rocky soils exposed to the sun but protected by surrounding vegetation.
Growth: Slow to moderate growth. It forms compact rosettes 5 to 8 cm in diameter, which can expand over time through offsets that create clumps. Its fleshy, short, and translucent leaves are a bright light green.
Flowers: Inconspicuous flowering in spring or summer. The flower stalks bear small, tubular white flowers streaked with green, without major decorative interest.
Light: Needs gentle, direct sunlight or intense artificial light. Too much shade causes the leaves to elongate and lose transparency.
Watering: Water only when the substrate is completely dry. It tolerates periods of drought well but is susceptible to overwatering, which causes rot.
Substrate: Use a very well-draining succulent potting mix, enriched with perlite or pumice stone, to ensure good root aeration.
Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans and animals.
