Snake plant is known as Mother in law’s tongue. Sansevieria trifasciata is beautiful perennial with pointed, lance-shaped, fleshy leaves. Snake plant can grow 0.6 – 1.2m or more long, horizontally marbled and banded dark and light green. Racemes, 30-75cm long, of tubular, green or greenish white flowers, 6-10mm long, are produced intermittently. Dwarf cultivars are suitable for growing in bowls and pans. ‘Laurentii’ has upright leaves, 45cm long, horizontally marbled mid- and dark green, with broad yellow margins. suitable for indoor and outdoor.
Mother-In-Law’s Tongue is a hardy drought tolerant plant native to tropical west Africa from Nigeria to the Congo. Adapted to arid environments, the Sansevieria developed CAM photosynthesis, allowing it to open its stoma at night and close it during the day to reduce loss of water. They are known for removing toxins and purifying the air. There are multiple cultivars of Sansevieria Superba that come in varying sizes, heights, and color patterns, though they all grow vertical, spear-like foliage in a characteristic rosette pattern.
