A handmade alpaca wedding shawl, designed for brides, bridesmaids, and mothers of the bride. Lightweight at 350 g yet exceptionally warm, it drapes beautifully over bare shoulders during the ceremony, outdoor photos, and evening receptions. Choose from 17 wedding-matched colours, including four distinct shades of white — Pure White, Ivory, Pearl, and Cream Melange — that pair with everything from crisp silk mikado to warm silk duchesse and champagne-toned gowns.

Why brides choose this shawl

Every Cosy Llama wedding shawl is hand-made in our family workshop in Ecuador, using 100% baby alpaca yarn sourced from the highlands of Ecuador and Peru. Baby alpaca is the finest grade of alpaca fibre — softer than cashmere, warmer than wool, and naturally hypoallergenic. You get genuine luxury without the scratch, weight, or shine that mass-market synthetic blends always betray.

Who it's for

  • Brides who want warmth and elegance without hiding the dress.
  • Bridesmaids who need something uniform, photogenic, and comfortable for an all-day shoot.
  • Mothers of the bride and groom who want a refined accessory that photographs beautifully and lasts long beyond the wedding day.

When and how to wear it

On the wedding day: draped across the shoulders during outdoor ceremonies, wrapped loosely during sunset photos, folded over one arm as you walk down the aisle, thrown over the dress during cool evening receptions.

After the wedding: this is not a single-use bridal accessory. Baby alpaca is a natural fibre that looks better with age, and a 200 × 65 cm shawl is the single most versatile piece of outerwear you'll own. Wear it as a scarf on cold autumn walks. As an evening wrap over a little black dress. As a travel blanket on flights. As a throw on the sofa during winter. Over a coat on freezing mornings. With care, a Cosy Llama shawl stays soft and beautiful for decades — many of our brides tell us they reach for it every week, years after the wedding.

Choosing your colour — especially for white dresses

Four of our colours sit in the white family, and choosing the right one is the single biggest reason brides love the final look. Here's the short guide:

  • Pure White — a cold, crisp white with no undertones. Pair with pure-white silk mikado, modern minimalist gowns, and cool-toned dress fabrics.
  • Ivory — a soft, warm white with a gentle creamy undertone. Pair with classic ivory silk, silk duchesse, lace, and most "off-white" wedding dresses (the majority of bridal gowns).
  • Pearl — a warmer cream with a subtle champagne lean. Pair with champagne-toned, blush-underlay, and vintage-style dresses.
  • Cream Melange — a textured two-tone off-white. Pair with boho, rustic, and outdoor-wedding gowns where a little texture complements the dress.

White shades photograph differently on phones than they look in person. We strongly recommend ordering a fabric sample first — we'll send 5×5 cm squares of the actual shawl fabric so you can match the colour against your dress in natural light. Free shipping when you order 3 or more samples.

A wedding accessory that becomes a lifelong wardrobe piece

An alpaca shawl is one of the few wedding purchases that earns its cost back many times over. Unlike a dress, shoes, or bouquet, your shawl is wearable every week for years — to dinners, to the theatre, on trains and planes, to work on cold days, to Christmas gatherings, to new-baby hospital visits. Brides often gift their shawl down to their mother, sister, or daughter years later. Baby alpaca doesn't pill, doesn't itch, doesn't lose shape, and only softens with use. If you're buying for one day, you're also buying for the next decade.

What makes this different from cheap alpaca shawls

Most "alpaca" shawls sold online are blended with acrylic or polyester and use coarser alpaca grades. Ours are 100% baby alpaca, hand-woven in small batches, and finished by hand in Ecuador. Every piece is unique — small natural variations in weave and tone are proof of craft, not flaws.

What is NOT to love about Lynda Barry?
Format: Paperback
I’ve been reading Lynda Barry since the 80s and am currently at work on a graphic novel, that I’m writing and illustrating. I have always believed in learning from the best and Barry has always been a favorite, from the creativity, recall and connections she makes with her work as well as with me (and I assume her other readers as well). This book delves into the connections of words and images, how to conjure and connect, especially with the whole creative vibe. She works with young people and the pipeline to that cerebral communication is appreciated and thought provoking as well, as my work will be geared to a younger audience. This is for anyone who interested in the process of sequential art, creating comics, characters, connecting with creative elements, it’s also a visually stunning book (again, the nerd in me, loved all the cross-references with the visual and other, using calligraphic and other historic, formal art elements along with the more personal character, visual creations and exercises. Thought-provoking and image inducing, indeed!

Lynda Barry is Awesome
Format: Kindle
This book is fantastic if you want to make comics by yourself or with a classroom. Barry packs in loads of experience teaching and making art. Her style of drawing is simple and straight forward. She uses a great method that empowers the reader to make art and share it. I want to be half the teacher Barry is.

This! Book! Rocks!
Format: Paperback
If you enjoy laughing, having fun with your friends and family, and doing cool stuff, you will love Lynda Barry's Making Comics. This is a thoughtful and complete recap of her live class at the University of Wisconsin, includes much of her substantial thought and philosophy on the role of image making in human evolution, and is full of her (and her students') amazing artwork; but it's also full of excessively FUN drawing exercises that are wonderful for sucky drawers as well as professional artists. We dig this book so bad!!! Best gift I've given myself in a million years!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I had a little bit forgotten how much I! Love! Lynda! Barry!!!!! So if you wish you could go move to Wisconsin and take her class like I do, instead just save the planet the extra greenhouse gases and get this book instead and do the class at your kitchen table with your friends!!! Maybe also order it from your local groovy independent bookstore so you can stick it to the man!!!
